That's what I put on mine, only mines light smoked. Just remember that it's a flat shield and the holes aren't notched. He told me the reason he stopped notching the holes is that people were crankin them too tight and causing spider veins in the shield. It kinda helps to have someone keep the wings lined up when you tighten your screws. Make sure not to tighten your outer fairing screws first. Loosen the two screws by each speaker, put the shield in, put your screws in and tighten to hold in threads. Tighten your screws by each speaker first, tighten screws at each end of shield next. Leave the middle screw til last because you will have to do some adjusting of your outer fairing to be able to close the gap on the sides of the inner and outer fairing. If you have a in. lb. torque wrench, torque the two screws by the lower trees and the two by your speakers to 25 in. lbs. Remember in. lbs., not ft. lbs.. Watch that you don't tighten the middle fairing screw too tight. This will stress your outer fairing. Remembe, this isn't preformed like Harley's
Put mine on today, and it really cut down the wind and noise. My sock hat didn't blow off and remarkably, my stereo sounds even better. Installation was a no brainer. Just take out the three screws, remove the stock windshield, align the holes with the screw mounting hubs, and screw them down.I went with the 61/2" model. The only thing is that is is not a hardened lexan, so I am worried about scratches down the road.
Hey BamBam:
I just purchaced a 5" clear from Robin and Pat through eBay. I'm having it painted to match my fairing, hense the clear. I just received it on Monday. I didn't open it, justdropped it off at my buddy's in the shipping package. He'll paint it this Saturday. So, I can not comment on the effectiveness of the wings or the quality of the product.
But, I'll tell ya ...
Late last Thursday night, I left the Sellers/Manufacturers (Robin and Pat) a message via one of their eBay adds. I could not find a clear windshield so I asked if they had one avaliable and informed them that I needed it quickly as my bud would be painting other parts for me on the following Saturday and I would need to get it to him by then. I left them mycell phone number. First thing Friday morning I received a call from a great lady by the name of Robin. I wanted to use my Paypal account to purchase the windshieldso she gave me instructions on how to purchase the 5" clear via their 5" smoked add. I purchased it Friday afternoon and Robin had it in the Mail on Saturday and I received it on Monday. She would have had it in the mail that Friday but she just reciently had a total knee replacement and was running in a much lower gear than normal.I can't say enough about their service and how cheerful Robin was to work with.
If the quality of their product is only halfthe quality of their customer service, it will be one hell of a product.
I don't like the smoked. It's bad enough having a fairing restricting your vision to the area directly in front of your wheel. I think the smoked acts more like a hunk of plywood in front of you. JOMO
I have the 7inch flat top, havent got to ride it yet due to the weather here but i hear it does a good job. The only thing i notice is that when i went to tighten my fairing back down the middle screw bowed the fairing in, it was like the screw was to short and to get it to even start to tighten the fairing was already bowing, so i dont know what im going to do to correct that, any advice.
