Installing the Fat Cat 2-1 on my 06' SG. Replaced the stock hanging bracket under the trap door with the one provided . Looks like they provided a 1" bolt with a nut to secure the header pipe to the new bracket. Also provided are 2 black bolts, I assume, for the footboard along with some large spacers, a few flat washers and lock washers. They also included two 1 1/4" bolts with 2 smaller spacers. I assume these are for securing the muffler to the hanging bracket under the saddlebag. However, these 2 bolts along with the smaller spacers are too long and bottom out before they secure the muffler to the hanger bracket under the bag. The bolts only go into the muffler so far before bottoming out and the spacers are not long enough to take up the slack. Do I need to add some lock washers to the spacers to take up the bolt length? Seems like the bolts are 1/4" too long? The instructions don't address this issue. Anyone have any install advice or pics for me?? Thanks.......
Guys, lost me on the header mount - under/over the tab? I just did my and had to remove the old pipe mouting bracket. My new bracket had three holes for the back three of the four holes on the old bracket.
I replied to another post. Did not remove the clutch cover - just cut off the front tab (which also had a smaller hole for a ground strap) and left that poriton of the old bracket still there.
But, Steve, you said to NOT use the SE gaskets - what you suggest? Cause, I had a SE set and used them. I also had the stock ones, but they seemed to big and tapered.
Even putting the header pipe on top of the tab doesn't change the fact that the muffler sits below the bracket under the saddlebag and I can't see how you guys have installed the muffler without using ANY spacers? We are using the stock flat metal tab to attach the muffler under the bag right?? This is baffling to me?? Maybe D&D is sending out different sized bolts in the packaging... Maybe I'll just pick up a couple of smaller 1" bolts for the rear mount.........

I tried using S/E gaskets when I was putting my Fatcat on for the first time.............leaked like crazy. I had to remove the system and put in a new set of stock HD gaskets, never leaked again.
The taper is what you want, it is what seals with the header flange.............just don't over-tighten the exhaust nuts, you can squish out the gasket and block off some of the exhaust port. A good way to do it is to install the exhaust and finger-tighten the nuts on the studs, start the bike up and then tighten the nuts until the leaking stops. That way you know you have them tight enough, yet not too tight to squish out the gasket.

Yep...used the stock flat mount and the 1" bolts from my Rineharts

Yes, but by having the tab sit on top of the bracket's tab, you are changing the angle just a little bit. You are reusing the stock flat "u" shaped bracket under the saddlebag, just use shorter bolts if needed.
When I put my muffler onto my header pipe, it sits perfect right under the saddlebag bracket.........then I just thread in the bolts and tighten them down. I think I used 1" long bolts, maybe even used 2 of the stock bolts that were used with the stock mufflers.
