Steve, taper goes towards the pipe or towards the engine?

Looking at the D&D header, it has a flat edge (fairly wide, like 1/8" or better). Just thought the SE gasket (being flat) was a better choice. That's what I used (I had both sets) - now need to check for leaks. I started her up, rode 30 minutes, let cool a bit, then retorqued.

IMO - seems like something like the SE gasket but say twice as thick would be the trick (wonder what would happen if you put two SE gaskets in?)

2005 ultra NC. Taper goes toward the pipe.
I noticed too how the Head pipes have a nice flat surface that seems to match up nicely tothe SE gaskets. The stock harley pipes seem to have a more rounded end.
Dont think I would put in 2 SE gaskets in the same port but if you try it I'll be anxious to know how it worked. I have both the SE & the tapered gaskets, just havent decided yet which ones I'll use ....................BG

I prefer to have the pipe tab below the tranny bracket tab and use the two smaller black spacers between the hanger and the threaded standoffs on the pipe.

The real objective is to get the pipe so the the muffle can is in a straight line with the two head pipes as they flow back towards the collector. "If" you can do that with the tab on top, AND not bind the motor mounts... then I suppose that would be ok too...

Stand back and look at it. You should be able to follow an "imaginary" line thru the head pipes back thru the muffler can and have that line be straight... You do not want the muffler can pointing up or down, with respect to the headpipes.

Yes, the Fatcat has a flat cut on the header pipe........it would make you think the S/E gasket would work, but they just don't seem to seal as well.

I'm using the Cometic gaskets that came with the top-end gasket kit..........they are a S/E style gasket, but the same material as the stock HD gaskets. I tightened them down good, and I'm having no leaks at all.

I wouldn't put 2 gaskets on top of each other...........that's going to leak like crazy.

Running the D&D Boarzilla, and had a b*tch of a time with the stock HD gaskets, running the SE gaskets with no problems. On mine, the pipe tab is below the mount and am using the spacer between the two. I think almost every one lines up a bit different, that is why they give you all the spacers.

Dont use two gaskets.

Does anyone use the silicon on the header/muffler joint?

Mine slipped on very easy, so like my MoCo slip-on's I spread some of the copper stuff on the joint. Not sure how well the D&D clamp actually squeezes the joint.

Mine leaked with the SE gaskets as well. I did not have a stock set. I put 2 of the SE gaskets in each head. They worked great, no leaks.
