Brake Master Cylinder Question (HELP!)
I just finished putting new chrome controls and stainless lines on my Cop Glide, and went for a shakedown ride yesterday. Upon returning home, I noticed a few drops of purple liquid (DOT 5) on/near the master cylinder. It's not the banjo fitting.It looks likethere was some slight "weeping" from the seal near the actuator rod behind the lever. I cleaned the area and tried to duplicate the problem. Squeezed the front brake lever about a dozen times, and let it sit while I was at work. Just checked it, and there is no fluid leaking, but when I squeezed the lever the first time it went right to the grip. Three squeezes later it was solid. What gives? Did I overfill the m/c? Does the seal have to "seat in", is it undersized because it will have contact with silicone base fluid? Was it because it was only 42 degrees out and the seal is rubber? Do I have air in the lines? Is the master cylinder defective? It worked fine yesterday over about 50 miles, half in traffic, but a couple drops is scary when it's brake fluid.
