I'm looking at picking up a Street Glide soon and I was just wondering if any of you have had experience with the newer 2007 bikes and also the previous generation of touring bikes. Just wondering if the newer motor and 6 speed trans are worth the extra coin. I'm mostly going to be using it for trips or when I'm hauling around the old lady so I'd be inclined to go with the 2007 but I'd like to hear some input.
Its worth the money. If nothing else, the same money that you spend to get the 88 inch bumped to a 95, will bump the 96 inch to a 103. Between that, and the 6 speed, its a no brainer to me.
If you get the 07, I strongly recommend adding the IDS. It really does refine the power-train.
Any reason your not looking at 08? (price?)
Are you looking new or used? I've toyed with selling my 07 if I could get a decent price because I would really like ABS.
I would say it depends on the price difference between the two. The 96"/6speeds are great, but there is nothing wrong with the 88"/5 speed bikes either. Both are very dependable and comfortable for what you will be using them for.
Without knowing what other options would be included on either bike, it's tough to say how close in price they need to be in order to make a deal. You are going to have some warranty left on an '07, not likely on an '06.
The biggest reason I like to buy used it that I don't tend to keep things very long so I'd rather have it already be depreciated a bit. If I did get an 08 I'd definately get the ABS on it. I have actually been looking at 07 Police Road Kings which have the 103" and ABS on them....which WOULD be very nice. I do like the looks of the SG a bit more and also with it being my 2nd bike I figure I'd like one with a fairing on it. I've also heard the service intervals on the new 96" motors have almost doubled in length and that the motor itself is quite a bit nicer.

Remember that the 07 cop bikes have a different ABS system than do the 08 civillian. My understanding is that the brains/guts of the old Cop ABS system take up a fair amount of space in one of the saddbebags on the cop bikes.
Any interest in an 07 SG with 103" motor (with tons of goodies?)
I have an 07 StreetGlide and it's great. However, in the hills of Missouri. You can't use 6th gear under 70mph!!
My friends 06 StreetGlide isn't as bad as mine. He shift's a lot less than I do!!
I had an 06 Wide Glide, an 88 with 6 speed. Loved it, but the 6th gear was just like overdrive in a car, not much use, and a lot of shifting.
I rented an 07 96 Ultra, and it was nice, but had a lot more heat, and hardly any more power than the 06 88 5 speed I bought. I had a 6 speed years ago, and it's just useless under 75 mph.
.02
The '07 is a nice putt but if you can pick-up a '05 - '06 with up-graded to a 95 or even 103CI and cheaper the a New one... By ALL MEANS grab it as they will run circles around the Stock 96CI
The 6-speed tranny unless doin' some major interstate's or like flyin down a counrty back roads is really not worth the extra $$$
I have an 06 Sg and there is nothing that I would change about it, great for cruising, proven motor, could had bought an 07 or an 08 but chosed the 06!!!!
I cand afford any of the three or all three so money was no object just being in the car business i never like to buy something when they first come out untill all the bugs are worked out of them for example the "Id's" or the "throttle by wire" for example..
