I went out and looked at 2 Road Kings yesturday, both 2003, one a classic and one the FLHR. Once I got home I realized I should have checked the inside width of the saddlebags to see if my helmets would fit. Could someone give me the dimensions of either the Hard/painted FLHR bags or the Hard/leather Classic bags? I have half-helmets and they are about 6 1/2-7" tall at the most. Thanks.
I have one half helmet that i can fit in the side bags and one that i can't the one that wont fit is the harley skull helmut, it has a bit of almost 3/4 helmet dip down towards the ears, the other one is just a bowl, not a beannie tho.
Thanks Sewerat. The Helmet I have is a Vega XTS, anyone care to measure the width of the bag for me? The dealership is closed today and tomorrow (Sunday & Monday).
On the RKC leather bags, the width is about 7" but since the side is somewhat pliable, you could probably stretch it out to close to 8". I can get a Harley half helmet in my bags with no problem but there isn't much room left for anything else.My noggin is an XXL so if you wear a smaller helmet, you should be okay.
Cool, thanks guys. I was thinking of trading my softail for an 08 Road King Classic, but I just can't bring myself to let it go. That's why i'm looking for a good used RK, better for long trips with the wife.
As you know, the great thing about the King is you can strip it down when you're flying solo or you can add all the goodies for when the old lady goes with you. It is probably the most vesatile bike on the market; although, ifI was buying another bike, I'd be looking at the Street Glide.
I have a rk custom, with the leather saddlebags. I wear a xxl helmet, when I wear one, and I can not fit it in my saddlebag... even though there is a little wiggle room. I am looking at getting some hard bags, at some point. I see some of those knock off bags. They look almost exactly like HD bags, but when I see them on a bike, they look smaller.
I would really like to know the demensions of the HD hard bags... if anyone has that information, please let me know...
