Default Ok, teach me...

Hey all,

Well I've been on this forum for about a month now and have learned ALOT, THANKS! But, I need some answers. When I bought my '01 King it was my first TC and my first EFI, now I've been riding Harleys for 20+ years just manly EVOS and shovels. My questions are about a SERT, a fuel pack and a PCIII. I know a SERT is a Race Tuner because my bike has one, it was on it when I got it and I have the actual programer. Can I do anything with this SERT myself or is it a dealer only install? What is a fuel pack, do I need one? Sorry to be so vague but I am just trying to learn. Thanks in advance.

The SERT is all you need. As for being able to tinker with it yourself, yes you can, recommended by performing a data logging session in data mode, and then manipulating variables you feel comfortable with. However, unless you have a good understanding of tuning EFI motors it is best left to a qualifed technician.

EDIT: To add a bit more to my reply, the areas of interest for tinkering are the VE tables and Spark Advance tables for both front and rear cylinders. The CLB(Closed Loop bias) table is a popular tweaking point as well.

Leave the SERT tuning to a qualified tuner. If you have a good dyno shop in your area, they can tune your bike for you. This will eliminate all the tweaking, tuning, messing, guessing, etc . . .

. . . unless you're like many others here who enjoy all that.

BTW, a SERT isn't installed. It is simply a connector that allows access to the stock ECM. You should keep it and the custom map CD with your bike.

I have the connector but no map CD, will this be an issue to the dyno tuner?

Not an issue because the tuner can read the map from your ECM. If you make minor changes like pipes then only minor changes to your current map may be needed. If you change cams or build your engine, then a tuner will write a custom map for you bike.

They gave me a CD with my custom map. I also have the SERT software CD which includes maps for bikes with HD screaming eagle parts. HD does not release maps for aftermarket parts but you can buy these maps from Latus Motors.

Some guys are saving the cost of a dyno tune by purchasing a map for a bike with the same parts they are running. Make sense? For this, you will need the software CD and a laptop PLUS enough knowledge to install the map in your bike's ECM.

No.
If he puts it on a dyno to tune it, he will have a data / mapping program in his
computer.
He will adjust the map accordingly.
some tuners will make you a cd of the tune, so you will have it in case of a problem
or if you move to a different area and a diffrent tuner.

Well my question is this then. Since I've owned the bike I've replaced the SC 203 cams with S&S 510 gear drive cams, should I have it re-tuned?

DiegoKing,

Your 2001 is a Magnetti Marelli FI bike so make sure you get the SERT for M&M, not Delphi. The SERT will come with some precanned MAPs which you can use as a starting point. However, the best way is to take it to a dyno tuner. Where in SoCal are you? I know of a couple of tuners in the LA area that I would recommend.

I already have the SERT it is part #32125-03 and it says Magnetti Marelli on it so I am pretty sure it's right. I live in Oceanside, any good tuners you know of around here?
