i agree with the thrill factor. and, i dont really mind paying for the thrill. but the differences between similiar bikes just confused me. 10 mpg is big difference in same year and model anything.

Hi,

I get around 45mpg, according to my trip meter I get around 47 but I think the odo is off abit. I ride pretty conservative just because thats me. All this is commuting on 2 lane roads over hill over dale. I'm sure it also drops when 2 up or when porking the throttle. Despite riding conservative the back tire still melts away around 7k. My 2002 goldwing would smoke a tire in 7k and I was hoping this dog would be easier on rubber.

Not muchproblem getting 210/220 miles a tank but it does vary, this on a bone stock 88

07 SG and I'm in the 39 - 43 range stock. I had Rineharts and SERT - ThunderMax and was averaging about 37 - 38. I went back to stock and my fuel economy went back up.

I don't have a 96" but did this "test" a couple of years ago after getting in a discussion over gas mileage. One day, I took a very long ride down the interstate. Going down, I ran the crap out of the bike, running over the speed limit, rolling on the throttle all the time, and going thru the gears hard when taking off. That leg, I got 38 mpg. I rode the same route home, but eased on the gas, and stayed right on the speed limit. On both legs, I had the DFO pulled from under the seat and sitting on my gas tank so I could watch the lights. Coming back, I hardly ever hit the "accerator pump" circuit. At any rate, on the trip back, I got 48 mpg. Pretty good for a bike that at the time had 50+k miles on it and is running lower 3:37 gearing.

Most of the time, I get 38-42 mpg depending on how and where I ride and how I have the bike loaded.

My 07 RG got around 38mpg stock. Now with a set of mild cams and thundermax I get around 30 -33 between Hwy and city traffic. I got around 40mpg going down to San Diego a couple of weeks back for St. Patty's day. That was at 75 mph with cruise on. I got around 38 when I st the cruise at 82mph. I ran her dry yesterday at 153 miles. I hate that "F"n' idiot light! Give me a petcock with reserve damnit! Thank God I know most everyone in town and got gas and back on the road in 10 minutes...
