Mileage... Who Cares... Figure the 13 or so bucks is a real cheap thrill ride...

On my 2000 RK Classic I average around 45 around town. I just checked it two weeks ago with highway miles and got 50.0 . A good friend of mine has a '96 RK and an '89 Heritage and both gets around 42. I'm not sure why mine gets such good mileage but I'm sure not complaining. I do ride pretty easy and I weight about 150.

Some of the gas stations around here have on their pump less than 10% ethanol That will drop your millage. I use premium gas BP Shell Sonoco.

In 11,000 miles, I've only had one tank where I got less than 41mpg. Hwy going 70-85 I usually get 44-48 mpg.

Over the last 700 miles I have averaged a tad over 40 mpg(US). Thats a mix of just about any riding you care to mention.

I have the 110. I ride very hard, 2-up, and get 40 mpg average.

I am not sure what I do different. I am definitely not easy on the bike!

I averaged 49 mpg while riding the BRP. I keep the rpms between 1800-2400 rpms for most of it. Not trying to get the mileage but we went slow to enjoy the scenery.

i read here where some get 49mpg. even before the stage 1 the best i could get is 35mpg. after stage 1 hasn't changed much.

those of you who are getting +40mpg what are your riding habits.
Mileage will vary greatly based on temperature, wind direction, speed, and riding habits. Although I routinely got >50mpg on my old Evo RK, I don't think TC's can break the 50mpg barrier without help, like a strong headwind. I check mileage at every fill-up, and here's what I typically get:

Backroads, ~55mph, no cold starts, little or no traffic: 50 mpg
Backroads, 65mph: 47 mpg
Interstate, 75-80mph: 42-43 mpg
City, numerous cold starts: 38-40 mpg.

Cold starts kill mileage, as the air-cooled engine takes forever to warm up thoroughly which keeps the EFI in a richer mode longer. Start, ride a while, then stop for 30 min. and the bike must go through another cold-to-hot transition. It cools down much faster than it heats up, which compounds the problem.

Check out this thread and read my long-winded post (21st message from the top) with the map attachment. It describes how I've tweaked my PCIII to get better mileage without adverse side-effects:
