Have 1000 miles on the '08 SG since picking it up two weeks ago. At 6'1, (34 inchinseam), I now realize the cockpit is too small. I had been experiencing some mild discomfort in the center of my back just below and between the shoulder blades.
I am now considering the HD Tall seat, which HD reports puts me back about 1-2 inches and about another inch higher. Anybodyhave any experience with this seat that could offer some feedback? or maybe other suggestions?
Am heading to the Arizona rally this Thursday from Denver and sure would like to be able to be comfortable while attempting to do four 500 mile days,(over five days).
Your thoughts and suggestions would really be appreciated!
I'm about the same size and had the same issues with my 2008 Street Glide. I did the following:
1. E-z brake extended rear brake
2. E-z brake extended front shifter, and removed the rear shifter
3. Wild1's 575 bars - wider, higher bars
4. Badlander seat (moved me back about 1 or 1 1/2 inches and down a little)
The setup is much better now and driving my Glide now feels great. I still want to lower the seat a little - so I'm considering sending it to Mean City Cycles for new foam. Also,I will be rotating the bars up to get a higher hand position this weekend.
I am going to give the tall seat a shot and take it from there, thanks. Thanks for the reminder, to get my wide *** in the gym, as well. Made me realize that when I was in the gym everyday, I wasnt really whining about any discomfort on the bike.
Anything to avoid the gym, though lately. Before you know it the SG is going to become the SG LZ-boy. I wont be able to do a singlesit-up but I will be comfortable on the bike.
I am 6'1" and weigh 300 pounds. I am not a little guy. I had terrible pain in my back, and when I switched bars, it made all the difference. BTW, I know what you mean by the small cockpit area. I have rented Ultra's, and RG. It took me a while to warm up to the shark nose, but I know I would be more comfortable on the RG... I am sure it will be my next tour bike...

RE: Ergonomics...
I'm 6'4" and put a Tallboy on after the first few hundred mile, major difference. Only thing I don't care for is it raises the height a bit and I feel like I'm sitting more "on" the bike than in it. Moved the flrbds out and fwd, all good. Next is changing the bars, need a couple inches up and back but trying to find some with no more that a 30" width; those I've found don't have enough center width to fit a SG[:@]
