Once you get used to it, you probably won't want to go back. I swore I'd never have a windshield on a bike, now I don't much like to ride without one, especially on a long trip. You'd be surprised at how much less fatiguing it is at the end of a long day in the saddle.
I too swore I never would have a windshield on a bike. Until I bought my Road King and HAD to ride it home with the windshield on. I rode it once without the windshiels and now it only comes off to wash it.

My new RG will be the first bike I've ever owned with a windshield and to tell the truth, I'm looking forward to riding without getting beat up by the wind all day long. Getting older? Yeah, I guess that's part of it for sure. I love the looks and feel of a 'naked' bike and will probably miss the sensation of freedom that you get but I plan on putting a lot of miles on this year and these old bones need a bit of pampering.

The cool thing about the roadking is that the windshield pops on and off. Get were your going, pop it off ride around, then when returning home, put it back on. I truly hate the look of the king with the windshield on, but on a long ride it is a must!

Thats why I now have a Road King instead of the Ultra, I ride 80% of the time (in the summer) without the windshield. I live in the mountains, so I dont get much above 40mph there. I do like a winshield for long distance, in fact I will be getting a Dead Center Fairing in the next couple of weeks. I really miss having a radio on long trips, and I can tell you that the stock RK screen is almost useless in driving rain and snow as compared to a batwing! I will be selling my stock screen after I get my DC fairing.

I'm still getting used to the batwing and shield. I love my SG, but wonder if I should have bought a RK instead. I enjoy the wind in my face.
