I just put a sundowner seat on my street glide and noticed that it is rubbing on the corners of my saddlebags how can I fix this. Its has clearance but when someone it sitting on this the seat squishes down and rubs. Please help.
Your saddle bags can be moved backward and foward by adjusting the fasterner brackets. I noticed this when I installed my saddle bag crash bars and one crash bar was much closer to the saddle bag than other. Than I noticed the saddle bag lid itself was coming very close to rubbing the side cover. I moved both saddle bags bach a little and just adjusted the fastner brackets untill the holes lined back up. This may help you if the seat is rubbing the corners of the lids.
My stock Roadglide seat does the same thing. By the time I noticed it it was too late. My bike is 8 yrs old now and that's the only real flaw in the paint so I'm just not worried about it any more.
Had the very same problem on my '03 FLHR. Get some 3M protective film (like the stuff HD puts on the fender underneath the seat)and cut some pieces to protect the inside of your bag lids.
There's a member on here that sells the 3M film and he has pre-cut lid pieces, but I don't remember his username - Profinish sticks in my head for some reason. Price is very reasonable if I remember correctly. I'm sure he'll chime in here. I know plenty here have already bought his kits and are pleased with them.
Just put a spacer between the saddlebag mounts, front and rear to move them out a little. Why put a bandaid fix by adding protective film or covers?? makes no sense to my simple brain. On my RKC with the stock bags and a detatchable passenger backrest the bag lids rubbed and a spacer was provided with the kit to correct this. I installed a Sundowner and did not notice a problem with rubbing until I installed hard bags recently.Just make sure with the hard bags both front and rear mounts touch the bags and do not need to be forced to make contact or it can slightly warp the bag body and cause the lid to not fit correct, I would think you do not want tension on those cheesy fastener wires. I used nut and bolts for security anyhow. The local Ace Hardware usually has a nice selection of chrome or stainless washers and spacers.
