Default Exhaust Wrap?

Has any one tried the Exhaust Wrap on a stock 07RKC? If so has it helped with the heat issues? Any problems? Can the guards still be used?
I'm thinking about giving it a try? Wifes says herright foot when ridng in warmer weather feels like it is on fire.
Have a couple trips planed over the Summer.
Yes she is wearing MC boots. They are made and sold by Harley.

Get rid of the stock cross over pipe, get some passenger board mount spacers from soos here on the forum, go Stage 1 and that will take care of alot of the heat.

I have wondered if you were to wrap the pipes in full if it would change the exhaust flow characteristics enough to change the state of tune. Since the heat shields install over the pipe and therefore over the wrapped pipe it should not be a problem as the wrap is not real thick anyhowas i remember from using it on car headers.

I wrapped part of my pipes on my 07 Ultra and put the shields back on. It was hotter then before, as there was no air flowing under the shield, due to the thickness of the wrap. So, all the heat was retained.

From experience I can recommend not to.

A buddy of mine told me he did it on his wife's Road Glide. She said it was better. But, she's the rider, not the passenger.

I wrapped the headers on my Ultra for a year. The temps were down and I was happy. Of course it smelled after I washed the bike or rode in the rain. Later I was talking with a guy at an exhaust shop about wrapping the headers on my truck and he told me not to do it. He said that the wrap retains the heat, and over heats the exhaust causing it to become brittle and self destruct. He said it was sexy looking and fine on a drag bike that gets rebuilt after every run, but not to do it on a daily rider. Later that year I removed my exhaust for some work. The wrap was brittle and broke apart. As I removed it, huge chunks of metal flaked off the pipes with the wrap. That alone told me that the pipes were slowly disintergrating from the heat.

So if you want to reduce heat, get the bike tuned properly and richened up just a tad. That really cooled my bike down. I found that wrapping the headers is a short term solution for a problem, and itmay lead to other issues.

Wife & Grandson had the same issue. Living in So Cal out in the Palm Springs area we seldon see anything lower the 116 degrees in the Summer - I did the Stage 1 which helped a lot but when I put on the RJ's Orignals Heat Shields (A Vendor here) - Cured the HOT FOOT ISSUE and was cooler for the rider also...

This is DEAD ON!!!! I wrapped the pipes on my drag scoot for years, but after awhile welding the pipes all the time became a pain and the gains on the dyno were minimal to nonexistant. On a rubber mounted scooter it could really be magnified by the constant jarring as well.

Hmm, this is interesting. I was going to rap my Buell pipes when i had it, but ended up ceramic coating inside and out with great results. I have a buddy with a nice bike that has his Joker pipes rapped, maybe I should talk to him. His problem was he was catching his pants on fire, now with the rap,
no burning leg sendrome...[sm=badbadbad.gif]
