Swapping levers
ORIGINAL: stro1965
The "V shaped wedge" that you're talking about is probably the spring that applies pressure to the brake light switch. When you disassemble the right side housing you can see it by looking at the back side of the switch. It just sits in there and could get lost if you're not careful.

I just had to add my two cents on this being so I just replaced the switch housing out for chrome...The wedge is there and was a huge problem for me in re-assembly. As stated by my colleauges above you want to place a cardboard "shim" between the lever and the switch to avoid damage to the break light plunger switch...And you can ask me how I know ! I had to have the dealer come pick it up because I couldnt get the 10 pounds of crap back in the 5 pound bad called the switch housing. Lesson learned...Just because you have a service manual, shiney tools, and a garage doesnt mean your a motorcycle mechanic!!! Sometimes its just easier to pay a professional to do the work. JMTC, good luck.
