Well simple job gone south I am trying to install the Harley PN 33884-07 and ran into a problem I think
I layed the old and new side by side and made them the same length when I install it the bolt rubs on the head when I shift??? I have the rear to the outside and the front to the inside thats how it looked in the directions Anybody else have this problem?
Experienced the same situation. I positioned the Heim joint on both the front and the rear to the outside. Problem solved and 5000 miles later no problems shifting or rubbing.

Yes. I did this change out too according to the pic dawg posted. Doesn't work and doesn't make sense.

I just installed it with both ends to the outside of the mounts. Feed the front screw from the backside and it clears the motor. Doesn't matter that it's not perfectly inline. That's what the heim joint is supposed to do. As long as it works. [sm=biker.gif]
As SOOS says put the front end of the new shifter rod to the outside of shift lever. I did this install yesterday and quote step 5 of written instuctions. "On 1999 and later FLHT (thats you) FLHR and FXDWG models, place the rod end on the OUTSIDE of the shift lever."
The picture is wrong for 99-up FLHT FLHR FXDWG, but is correct for all other models.
Not only will it work to the outside, but it is also the correct way.
Welcome to the world ofincrediblly simple to understand H-D installation instuctions.
