Ahhh, I udnerstand now. Couldn't figure out why the hell you need a key. But you guys have locking gas caps. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

That's not why........the new security systems arm themselves after you shut the bike off and the key is a certain distance away (like at your house)....without the key fob you can't start the bike hahahahaha

I didn't think they had the pop-up for the 08's yet? I never carry my key. Have an old barrell key in glove box for gas cap. I always have my key fob attached to my belt loop for the security.

your buds key would have opened the gas door and as stated above you can start the bike, some education would have been greatly enjoyed by your bud.

Guilty, I can;t remember the last time I left home with the keys in my pocket.

The pop-up button gas door release replaces the key-locked release and has nothing to do with the security system, it it just much more convenient and cleaner looking. Any HD barrel key will apparently unlock the gas latch, but the security fobs for the 07 and 08 bikes are individually set, they do not work for any other bikes.

My 08 wasn't ordered with the security system. I installed the Digital Guard Dawg (same proximity idea as factory). If I forget my key fob. Which isn't likely since I don't keep my key in the garage, but anything can (and usually will) happen. I keep my pin with me. All I have to do is call DGD's toll free number and they will deactivate the system. before I installed I have stopped for gas and realized I had no key. Fortunately I was only a couple blocks from home.

Any HD key will open the fuel door.

Had a really strange thing happen on Sunday. Went for a short ride with a freind of mine, we met up at my house. I started the bike in the garage, rolled it out and off we go. About half hour into our ride we stop for gas. I shut off the bike fill up and go to pull out my key with the gas company's debit fob attached, just then realize I took my car keys instead. Guess automatic habit from the past six months of winter.
Needless to say, can't start the bike. Pretty embarassing situation. My friend ended up giving me his bike to ride home and get the keys. Unfortunate for him by the time I got back he needed to get home. I did get to ride though.
Learned valuable lesson to make sure that have proper keys in my pocket, this is a strange incident but I guess is the only downer of the keyless ignition/security system on modern bikes.
Don't forget to take your keys!
