Hello,
I am trying to decipher what exhaust pipes to put on my 'new' 105th Anniversary2008 Road Glide as an upgrade. It was recommend to me by my HD dealership to put the Screaming Eagle (80490-07), slip-on mufflers. Thiswith the Screaming Eagle "Heavy Breather" air cleaner kit installed as well.It will also require an ECM calabrationkit too I was told. I am not very enthusiastic about his recommendation. I want to keep it all stock Harley Davidson. I just don't understand why Harley Davidson does not offer more choices for this model and year. I have read alot aboutafter market mufflers such as the Vance and Hines Big Shot Duals. I can only make my choice on looks at this point. I don't have the ability to see and hear different types of pipes I can use to help me in making my choice. Listening to samples on a manufacturers web site is of no help. Once I make a choice, buy them and have them put on it will be for life, like them or not.Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. [sm=helpout.gif]
Try a set of Rush slip ons. If you only want noise, then slip ons don't require any ECM remap. If you want to do stage 1 and change out the air cleaner also, then you would need a remap of the ECM or add a tuner.
I installed the screamin' eagle slip-ons (64985-07A) with downturned end caps (80615-07, me likes!) and SE stage 1 air cleaner kit (29260-08). Went to the dealer to install the Stage 1 ECM download.
I bought everything needed on line from Zannotti's HD (20% off).
I like the sound. The SE muffs meet noise level requirements (says so on the muffs) and none of these upgrades void the warranty. I also like the endcaps as I can change them to any style that I might like later.
You can install your AC and Muffs on in an hour and a half by yourself (with coffee breaks mind you). Stage 1 ECM requires dealer visit.
I had a Wide Glide with SE11 slip ons with Big City Thunder baffles and loved that sound. I got lots of compliments on the tone as well! Going to a bagger with a radio, I was looking for something a little more subtle, but would still keep the torque of the motor up too. I couldnt be happier with the Rush "FUEL MOTO" slip ons! They have a 1.75 baffle in the left with a 2" baffle in the right. The sound is perfect and the performance, gave me an 74 hp and 85 trq in a stage one 08 road glide. This was with the SERT and SEAC and a dyno tune. Very respectable numbers with a non obnoxious rumble at idle and a nice throaty sound when you twist it. Don't even think about anything HD these days...they have really toned things down to almost stock. At $350 a pair, the fuel moto Rush's are a deal. You won't be sorry. I have already had many admirers asking what kind of pipes I have. Hope this helps!
