HID for Roadglide
Anyone here installed the HID kit from Motorcycle Metal on their RG? Looking forcomments on installation, quality, service, product, etc. Thanks
1. Snapping 2 of the clips that hold the HID's to the lens (Due to the size of the HID's backend)
2. Small cut of the weather boot (for the same reason)
Dealing with Howard was great. The 2 kits came to me faster than my cheque made it to him. Any questions I had, Howard was the one answering the phone for any question I had. Never did get an answering machine. He took the time and patience to answer all my questions no matter how strange they might have been. Customer service was outstanding.
The lights are fantastic. They throw a lot of light. Everyone that's seen them has really liked them. It's funny to watch people walk by, stop, take a few steps back and stare at them... Just like bugs. I couldn't be happier.
The other reason outside of wanting better lighting, is getting noticed. Where I am in Northern Canada, daytime running lights are manditory on every vehicle after 1990. These lights get the cagers attention when I riding through an intersection or following behind a car. Anything that gets their attention is a good thing. They look different , they're brighter and your noticed.
I am one happy customer and anyone that's asked, I wouldn't think twice on recommending Howard or his HID's. I don't work for him and I think I live about as far away from him and still be on the same contanent as anyone could. All he's asked of me from day 1 was to give an honest review and let the chips fall where they may.
If you have any questions on how I did it, or anything else, You can post it here, PM me, or take a look of my Photobucket site where I pretty much did a step by step photo log of everything I did and how I did it.

You can also ask Howard if you like. I gave him the same info as well and permision to use my photo log. There is also 3 videos that I did there. They look black on the page, but when you click on them, you'll see. 1 was testing the lights on a bench in front of the bike. 2nd was through cutting torch glasses to show how the bulbs moved so you can see how they go from hi beam to low beam. 3rd was how little the draw was on the started when I fired my bike up with the lights on. They draw very little after turning them on. About 10 to 15 seconds after the check engine light goes out.
Hope this answers most of you questions.

This is my first RG, so even taking off the fairing was a new experience to me. I had to discover the parts about "How to get the lights to screw in" and "The weather boot thing" on my own. Everything else was as straight forward as Howard said it would be.
I've never seen this set up on an RG before. Someone can tell me how to do it, but pictures are always the best for me. I think I've covered everything so anyone can put these in themselves.
There is only a couple of things I might have second guessed myself on. Where I put my igniters, and if I'm going to take off the shield that comes on the bulb.( It can be removed).
I wanted to make sure I had enough wire from the igniters so when I removed the fairing I would have enough wire to lay the fairing on the fender. There is more than enough. I might consider moving them underneath the ballast. There's enough room. I thought about this just to clean up the area behind the bulb when putting the headlight plate back in. They're fine where they are if you want to do it like I did.
Removing the shield? The bulbs throw a lot of light. I notice that when I pull up to a window , or see the reflection in the back of cars, The lights in the day, look to have a "Cat Eye" look. This could be because the shield doesn't let the light get to the bottom part of the reflector. The RG is one of the only light set-ups that doesn't have the shield around the normal H4's. My Heritage has the shield, so do most RK's. I'm thinking I might get more by taking off the shield. It's didn't have it on the OEM bulbs, so the design of the reflectors should be able to deal with this. I'm going to give that a try in the near future. Even with the shield on, It lights up way better....I'm just tinkering to see how it'll work. If your stock bulbs have the shield.... you proably won't have to consider this due to them being designed for them.
Hope this helps.
