Default Now what ? confused but not dazed

Well I sold my 08 ultra yesterday. It was a hard decision but it just wasn't the bike for me. I loved the stereo, tach, tour pak and look. The intercom was ok and never used the cb. Liked the protection of the batwing but didn't like all the weight on the front forks, the way the front end blew around while on the hiway and it felt to heavy driving it around town in stop and go traffic, parking ect.
I had a 03 road king and liked it but I will miss the tach and stereo the most if I go back. Test rode a Road Glide and got alot of head bobble from it, stock windshield. Other than that I liked it but it didn't seen to provide alot of protection from the elements. I really prefer a carb on a bike and not EFI, but I like ABS. I want to keep riding a Harley but I'm so confused, now what? Another RK or try a heritage or road glide. I'm probably not going to do more than day trips on one. I want to stay with a FL front end bike. may have to rent for awhile and hit demo days.
Sorry for the long post to all my therapist out there. I'm just needin' some advice. It is appreciated. Ride safe, I'm grounded for now.

Well depending on your height you would need a different windshield on the RG. Clearview makes a great replacement. As for the RK you can always add a tach and stereo same with a Heritage.

As for carb vs EFI...I personally will never buy a carbed bike ever again. I have never had any issues with EFI. I always use the top tuners in my area to get my bikes dyno tuned.

Just take your time and you will find the right bike for yourself.

I'm 59, and a relatively short 5' 7" 170lb guy. Bought an 07 Ultra after riding on a 98 RK for 9 years. I find little difference in slow-speed handling between the two bikes, and really enjoy the extra power and smoothness of the Ultra at all speeds. Admittedly, I have to work a bit when I'm backing it as I park, or when I lift it off the kickstand on a down-hill slope, but that's a non-issue to me. I'll admit that when I ride my Brother in law's Heritage Softail, the bike feels more equally balanced and lighter, and you sit lower. You may want to try it. I still prefer my Ultra.

if i was you i will buy a good used carb touring model.my friend just pick up a 2002 RK with carb for 10k with just 2200 miles on her.the owner works with us and he got cought up in all thefrenzy of the new bikes.once he took possesion of his new 2008 RK classic he took it back to the dealer and told then to do wathever it takes to make this piece of **** run right.he also offer my friend 16,700 cash for his old bike.his old bike andthe new one are exactly the same except the year and carb vs efi.keep you RK for town and get a touring for long hauls.

i made the mistake of trading a 2001 fatboy carb for a 2007 street glide.i added thundermax with auto tune,2/1 fatcats and ness big sucker.it runs great and really cool temperature wise with plenty of power so right now is a really good ride.when new i had to stop halfways from my way home from work so bike could coool down and also to get relieve from the burning sensation inside my legs.and by the way i work 7.3 miles from my house so figure that one out.i will be looking for an old heritage or fatty carb for town.but never again will i trade a carb bike for the injection nighmare.hope it helps on your descission.

I bought an '08 RKC and added the speedo/tech combo - the retro style looks great on the bike. I also added heritage handlebars to make the reach a little easier. I have pull back risers on my dyna and have gotten use to the riding style. It sure makes it easier on my neck and back.

I thought you had the best bike also
Iam getting ready to get an 08 Ultra
but I am having the detach tour pak kit put on
I am wondering if that would have helped, the tour pak
is weight that is up high, so around town it does not for a different ride
My co-worker rides an 06 Ultra and stands 5'5" and has no problems
Yes he has to be careful not to park on a downslope, but has never compplained about wind

Good Luck in your new quest

I've been riding bikes for over 40 years now, and I've owned or tried just about every kind out there in an seemingly endless search for the perfect bike for me. I've gone thru dual sports, crotch rockets, gold wings and more. I always ended up selling them because even though they seemed like the "perfect" bikes initially, later it became apparent that they weren't. That was until I bought the RK Custom. For ME, I think this is it. Every time I pull the cover off of that bike, I get a feeling that the other bikes couldn't give me. This one's a keeper. So, my point is...don't despair...keep looking. Your bike is out there. You just need to find it.
