HD originally approached Dynojet to license their tuning device for HD. Negotiations fell through, and thus we have the SERT. I want what HD wants, so I use the PCIII.And should the PCIII ever fail, I can unplug it and still drive the bike home. And if I ever needed to exchange maps, I can from the comfort of my garage. And if you think you get better tuning work in SoCal from a HD dealer over an independent, well, you've got another thing coming! Go where the racing bikes go... It ain't the HD dealer.

Just an opinion here...obviously both are good tuning devices!
Tuning Devices?.....DynoJet?.....H-D programs their own ECM's, they write their own programs...they package them on a CD with the ability to modify the ECM parameters internally and it is a SERT. The SERT is not atuning device...it is software with a datalink to reprogram theECM......
PC tricks the ECM by riding piggy back and intercepting signals then changing them and sending them out again.
The only way the SERT mapwill fail is if the ECM fails and as with the PC which is piggy back to the ECM..if the ECM fails the PC will fail...either way are you riding home.

Again..do you want to program your computer or trick it?
Just my personal opinion, okay, I wouldn't take the SERT if it was free! In addition to conversations with the HD dealers, performance builders, and indies, Italked with the most reputable local race tuner in my area (SoCal), who has no dog in this hunt, and clearly the PCIII was best for my application. And DynoJet was HD's first choice for an "aftermarket" tuning strategy. I'm glad you're stoked with the SERT! If my bike wasn't a MM efi, I'd probably be running a ThunderMax as a first-choice anyway, but the extra $2K cost is a bit steep.

it also depends on if you want to make adjustments or take to the stealer to make adjustments.

SERT is dealer adjustment...

PCyou can make adjustments...

I've heard both perform OK....I have a PC

SERT is not a dealer adjustment...you can modify the AF tables from your own laptop in your own garage.
Not the new ones. Dealer adjustment only. The old style allowed you to do your own thing. The new ones you don't get the CD or cable.

I that's all eth performance upgrades you are going to do then get which ever is cheapest. TheSERT is much moreflexable the the PCIII if you are going to do more upgades in the future.
The real secret is to schedule dyno time no matter which tuner you get; it will make a differance in the way the bikeruns, a lot of people try to skip this step.

You can get a good tune using either device. The key is getting a good tuner to do a custom map. Now a lot of people have been getting their PCIII from Fuelmoto which a map already installed and have been happy.

I have a PCIII and have no complaints.

You can buy the cable for $30.00 then you can tune your bike at home, the dealer recommended installation note is for you to pay the dealer to do it for you if you don't know what your doing. Its pretty simple if you can operate a laptop.

I went with the SERT for 2 reasons...1) No extra piece of equipment hanging on the bike, and 2) There seems to be a lot more "issues" discussed on this forum regarding the PCIII...not really problems, but slow starting and setup related issues....admitedly most of the setup issues were with people doing their own setup and tune. I wanted a dyno tune anyway, so the SERT seemed to be my best choice and is what my shop preferred to work with.
