Default Black Pipes

When riders have their pipes painted black, is that the only color it can be painted due to the heat and type of surface?

There are a variety of colors available in VHT rattle cans. Check the local auto parts store. If they don't have your color, they can order it.

It's Not Paint. it'sHigh Temp Powder Coating or the newCeramic Coatings. Paint would last maybe a few minutes.

Actually, that's not entirely correct. I painted my slip-ons with Krylon high-temp BBQ black. It's rated to 1200 degrees. I put 3 coats on them and the paint is still there 500 miles later. Yeah, it won't last forever, but it cost me $3.99 and a few hours of my time.Ceramic coating runs in the neighborhood of $300. For the time being, it works and I'm happy.

BTW, I only found the Krylon BBQ paint in a matte black finish. Got it at Home Depot.

I would not powdercoat pipes. You'll need to go with a ceramic coat to withstand the high temps. I powdercoated the heat shields, but was advised by the company that it wouldn't last on the pipes.

But, to answer your question, powdercoating is available in almost any color you can dream of. The basic colors are pretty cheap to do. Custom colors are more expensive. I've used a local company for years and they do excellent work...Steel Coatings in SLC, UT.

Although pcoat will handle the temp, it will discolor with time. Ceramics are best but most costly. If you have the pipes sandblasted a good VHT will stand up well and can be easily touched up, also is the cheapest way with the most color choices. A buddy swears by VHT clear on brand new chrome pipes, his are over 10 years old and still look new.
I personally like the look of chrome that has blued with age, kind of like a Merschaum pipe.
