Anything you CANT do? Well, I guess no. But for a realistic price? YUP.

The two biggest issues IMHO, are:

1. Silver Motor

2. Polished aluminum covers on the motor, instead of chrome.

I work with a guy who has a 04 Superglide, which is kind of the entry level Dyna, as the Standard is the entry level Bagger. When I see just HIS bike, I could MAYBE live with the silver motor, and his engine covers don't look TOO bad. Until any of us with the chrome covers park next to him. THAT is when you really see how much duller the standards covers are. On my last bike, an EG Classic, I did not want to spend the bucks for a chrome front end kit, so I pulled the forks and had them polished for about $100. And I thought it looked pretty damn good, especially for a $500 savings over the chrome kit. But when I mounted the CHROME lower fork air deflectors, THEN the polished aluminum looked like crap sitting there next to the chrome. You need to put them side by side to appreciate how much nicer the chrome covers look.

If you don't CARE about that, and want function for the lowest price, then yes, the Standard is the best buy out there. But IMHO, if your not going to leave it just about 100 percent stock, your gonna come out on the loosing end moneywise. I would think that by the time you add a decent radio, and replace the stock seat (sorry, but I think the stock EG seat looks like *** without a trunk on the bike) your half way to the difference in price to go to an SG. And you STILL have the duller looking engine covers, silver motor, not to mention all the other smaller trinkets.

As for the CVOs having silver motors, yea, they DID. You notice this year they have a new color (darker granite color) all to themselves.

The black engine looks great when new, but the finish is hard to maintain.

Spray it on, let it dry, DONE. And yes, I looks like brand new. (I about died the first time I tried it) Lasts about 3-4 washings.

Like I said, if you look at a FLHT-PI you can usually get them cheaper that a standard and it comes with no radio but the wiring is there and the Black engine!

I got a screaming deal on my FLHT. So I decided to take off all the brushed aluminum and get them chromed....MUCH cheaper than buying HD chrome. While torn down, I painted the block. Two coats high heat primer, 3 coats high heat black paint. Looks great, no blisters, no cracking...and the smellfrom the paint baking inafterthe first "postpaint"ridewas a bonus....

I was going to go the cheap route, and that is exactly what it is, and I decided on the SG and I am very gald I did.......the bike rocks and is the best IMHO bike that Harley makes. No regrets and it looks great as it stands and with mods........even better. I think of this argument like the LS2 / LS3 vette guys....... they are both vettes but one has 30 more hp! In the case of the SG... 30 more things that kick ***.......at least.

Save up a little long and get the one you really want. Then you won't be second guessing yourself in the end..

I was going through the same dilema. When I went to the dealer I just hated the brushed engine look of the EG Standard. I sat to high. And thought the stock stereo sounded great in the street glide.
