EG Standard vs. Street Glide
The two biggest issues IMHO, are:
1. Silver Motor
2. Polished aluminum covers on the motor, instead of chrome.
I work with a guy who has a 04 Superglide, which is kind of the entry level Dyna, as the Standard is the entry level Bagger. When I see just HIS bike, I could MAYBE live with the silver motor, and his engine covers don't look TOO bad. Until any of us with the chrome covers park next to him. THAT is when you really see how much duller the standards covers are. On my last bike, an EG Classic, I did not want to spend the bucks for a chrome front end kit, so I pulled the forks and had them polished for about $100. And I thought it looked pretty damn good, especially for a $500 savings over the chrome kit. But when I mounted the CHROME lower fork air deflectors, THEN the polished aluminum looked like crap sitting there next to the chrome. You need to put them side by side to appreciate how much nicer the chrome covers look.
If you don't CARE about that, and want function for the lowest price, then yes, the Standard is the best buy out there. But IMHO, if your not going to leave it just about 100 percent stock, your gonna come out on the loosing end moneywise. I would think that by the time you add a decent radio, and replace the stock seat (sorry, but I think the stock EG seat looks like *** without a trunk on the bike) your half way to the difference in price to go to an SG. And you STILL have the duller looking engine covers, silver motor, not to mention all the other smaller trinkets.
As for the CVOs having silver motors, yea, they DID. You notice this year they have a new color (darker granite color) all to themselves.
The black engine looks great when new, but the finish is hard to maintain.
Spray it on, let it dry, DONE. And yes, I looks like brand new. (I about died the first time I tried it) Lasts about 3-4 washings.
