Default FLHT "The Antichrome" Model

I dont really need a tour pak (solo rider only) and could care less about a stereo system on a motorcycle. So the FLHT for me is the bargain of the bunch. I am used to the chrome covers but I am not a chrome everything kind of guy. Do any of you that have an FLHT ever regret not getting a Classic for the Chrome?

I won't say I regret buying my FLHT, but for what I've spent so far (and what I'm going to spend) I could've easily gotten an Ultra. However, I think a lot of folks spend substantial amounts of money on their bikes no matter what model they buy. I'm sure we've all heard the saying that the purchase price of a bike is just a down payment on all the accessories we will buy. Part of the enjoyment, at least for me, is taking a stock bike and making it my own. That's what attracted me to the FLHT to begin with -- it was like a blank canvas waiting for me to shape and mold it to my preferences.

I now have my FLHT setup like a Classic minus the stereo. (to be added later) I bought the FLHT because of the price and I really like the silver engine. I probably have just as much into it as I would have if I bought a Classic, but that has been half the fun. Like Chad said it is a blank slate so you can do as you want. Being that you are a solo rider I do not see the need for the TP. I got mine because of all the wife's crap she wants to take with us. The saddlebags and a duffle bag was plent for me. You could always buy a classic and take the TP off and have it incase you become a two up rider or for resale value. Just have to weigh you options. Bryan

I think the biggest reason I got the classic was for the powder coated motor.

My next bike will be a SG blacked out! So I wont have to worry bout the chrome pitting. I assuming it will be less maintenance!?

The E-Glide Standard would have been my pick if not for the fact that my wife and I tour two-up most of the time. For the extra coin, the Classic we eventually got was well worth it. The tour pak is a must if you are travelling with a passenger. As a solo rider you do not really need it, but having that extra storage still enables you to bring along just about anything you would want. Not to mention you are also able to pick up anything you come across on your travels except furniture. You can also get a full case of beer in one too. The Classic has more bling, but my main concern was passenger comfort and carrying capacity. I do prefer the black powder coated engine cases and chrome covers, but they are just gravey on an otherwise great touring package. Even if you have a Standard, I highly recommend electronic cruise control. Comes in damn handy on those hours long interstate trips. I'm a "less is more" kinda guy, but for us the Classic is more bang for the buck. The Standard is a great foundation to start with though.

Nope, never regret the standard, I love it still. I'm not a chrome guy either and love the silver engine too. I started taking stuff off soon after I got it and it has the SG look to it. I always joke that Harley copied me to make the SG, if the SG would have been available in 03, I might have gotten one........

BTW, having the stereo (did the Hogtunes kit) is awesome

I bought a one year old police EG in Feb. 05, so I have had a similar experience to the guys with the EG Standard--no air temp/oil pressure gauges; no radio; and no tour pak.

Frankly, this has been an excellent bike for me and I haven't spent much making additions to it that I would have had if I had purchased an EG Classic. The only drawback to the Standard FOR ME is the lack of chrome on the engine and transmission. A buddy has an '03 Anniversary EG Standard and it's a sweet bike, except for the lack of the chrome engine/tranny parts. Easy to remedy, of course if that floats the owner's boat.

It's a big hobby and plenty of room for everyone's individual tastes.
