I am hinking about getting the Garmin Nuvi 200 gps for my car and bike. Has anyone bought this model? also, has anyone used the ram mount handlebar mount on an ultra? I hear that the iphone has built in navigation. I wonder if that would be better? I am unsure how beneficial a GPS unit would be and I don't want to spend a lot. Can anyone give me some suggestionand comments on their gps units and expereinces?
Love my gps more every day. I didn't think I would use it too much, but it has kept me from being late to appointments (i commute to clients), it keeps me less stressed by telling me when I'm going to get there, it has found me better ways to get places I already know how to get to, found gas for me at 2am, and with bluetooth, it did it all without me really ever having to look at the screen.
I have found new roads to ride both by its suggestion and by just taking them and knowing it will help me find my way when I'm ready.
I wouldn't put a nice iPhone out in the elements like that. They are decent phones but a bit overpriced for me.
I have a magellan GPS for my car. A co-worker has the Garmin 660. I like the 660 much better. The 660 has an option for traffic reports and alternate routes. What I don't know if the 660 can mount on the bike. I plan to purchase the 660 as my next GPS.
I have a TomTom Rider v2.
Has bluetooth, mount, headset included.
Can attach to your phone and do traffic.
Comes with a RAM mount and Scalar Rider headset. Got it for $475 shipped.
Lots of people use the entry levels, but after spending money on a mount, ways to power it, etc... you are almost at the price of the ones for bikes anyhow.
RAM makes great mounts for just about everything but they are more function over form.
I am hinking about getting the Garmin Nuvi 200 gps
Keep in mind the Nuvi 200 is not waterproof - exercise caution if used in the elements.
I have the Ram U-bolt on my '08 UC right now - it works OK but I prefer a dash mount system.
As a side note, I've had the basic Garmin Street Pilot III, a 2730, and now a GPSMAP 478. While the 478 is more complex, I found they all work about the same. So, don't shy away from a more full-featured model...you might find you'll outgrow the basic unit pretty quickly.
Why is there at least one in every GPS thread. Some of us like to have some modern tech with us. Some don't.
An atlas works, but not as effectively or efficiently. I got tired of tucking maps an/or directions under my tank panel.
I can spend time riding rather than focusing on directions. Just because it's there doesn't mean I have to let it control me
