Just my take - but it kinda seems like youare looking for reasonsto complain.

As someone mentioned in another thread - I'm not a big fan of the 'stealership' references. We all patronize the shops...and if you don't like the H-D way of business, there are plenty of local 'indy' shops around that will take your money & try to get you to let them do your work too.

You knew before going into the shop what the 'skinny' was on slip-on swaps.. just because the guy was trying to generate some revenue - you are going to say they're trying to 'steal' from you. That does nto seem right in my opinion. If some rich-*** **** comes into the shop totally oblivious to what he's doing, and pays to have the slip-on's installed and the Stage One download done - then who's losing on the deal? The customer is going to get a better running/better sounding bike with a higher rev limit -and the shop will make a few bucks to offset the profit they are making on the $30 t-shirts.

Not slamming you here by any means...but it's just kinda seeming like you were just looking for a reason to throw around the word 'stealership'.

Eddie, do a little research.

The size dos'nt matter on the pipes it's the back pressure that matters. Seems like I heard that someplace before.

I suggest staying away from the dealer and spend more time on here.

We'll help you out, take a look at my sig.

Thanks for all the replies...I was told the size of the diameter effects the back pressure, that is why I needed to stay with the 1.75" diameter. Anything larger than 2" diameter would required the stage 1 and the re-mapping of the EFI. If the size of the diameter does not matter effect the back pressure, what slip-ons would you recommend. I only want to changed the sound of the exhaust. I want a deeper tone and slightly louder.

Thanks

What did you expect? They call it the stealership for a reason. There job is to make money by taking yours anyway they can. The last place I would ask a question is the stealership.....

If that's all you want to do then look into the Screaming Eagle slip ons, just a little louder and a little deeper.

Harley has to meet EPA specs, even if I did nothing else to it I would add some sort of fuel management device ThunderMax, PCIII,,,, Just to get a better running bike.

Did you refer to them as a "stealership" when you talked to the service writer? If so, I don't blame him for trying to get whatever he could out of you.

Maybe you should have talked to a mechanic, not a service writer as they're not mechanics.

What's wrong with changing the A/C and adding a fuel mgt. system that you don't want to do that? You can do all of it in your garage.

The three metro Atlanta dealership service departments I've dealt with in the past three years have service writers of very different knowledge and experience. Some seem to know a great deal and others seem to be a green as new grass.

As for re-programming the ECM when installing Rush mufflers with a 1.75" baffle, I don't know but it probably depends on the volume of air the muffler flows compared to the stock HD muffler, and the ECM's ability to compensate for greater/lesser air flow since you have an '08 with sensors in the exhaust and an ECM that has the some ability to modify the fuel delivery.

Seems like you got an answer from HD Customer Service that was different from what you heard from the Service Writer. I haven't dealt with HD Customer Service on a technical question like you have and it would be comforting to believe that they know what they're talking about. Based on the answer you received, however, I doubt the person you spoke to knew what they were talking about. But I can also understand why the service writer would want to avoid being explicitly contradictory of HD Customer Service. Given the lean AFR the newer bikes run at to achieve EPA compliance, and the heat associated with the lean conditions (and customer complaints that come from it), I'd want to verify the AFR post Rush muffler installation was okay.

You might consider contacting Rush for their advice.

I suggest whatever you do, get the names of the persons providing the advice, an email address, and send a confirming email regarding the advice you received and save the emails. it avoids confusion about what was said andwhat you heard. Just my .02.
