I need to replace part or all of my jiffy stand. My 02' RK PI jiffy stand still locks but has a LOT of "play" in it. That is to saythe bikerolls forward & the stand locks at about 20 degress pass where it should.(well past 1/2 way)HD wants $185 for a new one. Found pieces& parts on e-bay but not the whole stand, mount, locking tabs etc. Replaced the springso that's good. I don't understand how the locking mechanisem works, so I don't know if I just need to replace a piece, maybe the stick or the locking tab or the whold thing. Any advice?
They all roll forward like that. I guess yours could be "extreme" if the locking tab is worn on the edges. IMO, it would take a lot of use to ever wear one that much. At any rate, you can replace just the tab.
I've got freinds that theres don't roll back more than 1" maybe. People freak out when I park next to them they think it's going to fall over on their bike. I would attach a pic, but I put it in the shop yesterday to get a new rear tire. ( metz 880). I hope it has beter wet grip that the HD police run flat it had.
Inspect the tab (Leg Stop), it should look like the photo below form a new 08 SG. If the Leg Stop is worn, you should be able to replace it, with out having to replace the entire jiffy stand.
As has been stated several times, they all do that; but it's also what makes a nice CENTER STAND, like the one from Wheel Docks, VERY attractive; holds the bike more reliably, with the added benefit of holding the bike straight up, for cleaning, checking tranny oil, etc. Usually run just under $300, but I'd SURE look at one before I spent money on that junky 'jiffy stand'.
He's talking about the "Jiffy Stand", that's the "Kickstand" in Harleyeese. Wheel Dock may be good in the garage but carrying it around for every time you stop would be ridiculous.
