I usually wait until it finishes its idle routine and drops back down to 1k or so but today I was in hurry and left in the bikes warm up stage. I drove about 15 miles to work and it was still acting like it was trying to warm up. The idle stayed at like 2k. Anyone have this happen? I only have just less than 500 miles on it .... This is my 1st fuel injected bike. Thanks.
Only 700 miles on my 2008 SG but nothing like this has happened to me - knock on wood. Of course, it doesn't take as long to warm up the motor down here in Georgia!
Do a search on this a lot of 08's are doing it but usually created by shutting off in a higher rev such as blipping right before shutting down. You can reset with kill switch and not running but check other articles and it is also in the owners manual.Maybe that is what yours needs is the ecm reset
The only "problem" I have on my 08 is that on occasion, when I just hit the starter and go on a warm bike, my idle will be erratic. The RPMs will go between 1200 and about 1600 RPM for a couple of miles. I noticed that if I just wait 15 to 20 sec. till the idle settles before I drop the clutch..no problem. I think maybe a small glitch in the ECU on warm start up under load. Bikes runs and operates normally with just a slightly high idle and settles into a normal idle after a short time. Again this only happens when I'm making a quick get-away without ME allowing the idle to settle. Now I turn the power on, turn on the kill switch, and wait till I hear the fuel inj. stop hummimg before I start the bike. Then I let it idle for maybe 15 sec. before I take off. I think that if you do'nt let the fuel injectors charge before start up or do'nt give about 15 sec of idle you mayupset theidle for a short time.Otherwise, like many before me have posted, this is the best Harley i have ever ridden!
i had the same thing happen on my 2007 softail with efi,it would seem like it was stuck in high idle/warm up cycle still,it would also surge at times, other times it would just stumble and stall.i took off the vance and hines fuel pack and went with sert and problem was solved.
I was at my HD stealer on Tues this week and heard a discussion with an 08 Ultra owner about this very issue. They have had 5- 08s brought in for this issue. The stealer found a download available from HD which corrects this issue. My recommendation is take it in and get it fixed.
My buddie's 08 EGC does this. Dealer said they got a service bulletin, something about cycling the ignition 5 times. Anyway, known issue. Talk to your dealer.
I'm and getting it dynotunedsoon so that will take care of it, I am getting ready to leave work so I will let it run for a little while this time.... thanks for the info.
This does seem to be a pretty prevelant issue with the '08s though seems to be hit and miss with some bikes never experiencing it, some bike once then the reset clears it, and some bikes repeatedly even after the resets.
There was a thread as recent as yesterday.
1. To reset your idle set the ign. switch to off
2. flip the run switch to run,
3. without touching the throttle turn the ign switch to ignition
4. wait 10 sec,
5. turn the ign switch to off.
6. repeat 3 - 5 ...3 more times.
