I have had BOTH....it seemed to me that the manual adjustable one had as many settings as the adjustable control one. For me it was pretty much the case of that when I found the comfortable position; I left it there. Therefore,,,,,,for me; it was not worth the extra cash. But....to each their own.

I started with the adjustable on my 05 Ultra but went back to the standard. The adjustable is wider and did not offer as much room for my wife (passenger) as the standard. Either way I couldn't ride long without one.

Like most everyone else, I love my backrest and I never leave home without it. Mine is a manual adjust. It has the screw in the back. I set it up one time and have never changed it.

Another point you might not be aware of, when you have the rider backrest on, they are easily removed by just squeezing it together and lifting it out of the slot in the seat, if for some reason you wanted to ride with out it on.

I have the standard with the Sundowner on the King. Had it for a while until I got used to it. One day I saw someone else riding, and they had their highway pegs mounted up towards the top of the engine guard. I moved mine up in the parking lot of a Circle K somewhere in the middle of central florida. Unbelievable difference. With the pegs a little higher, leaning against the backrest, I felt I could go all day long, and did. Without the backrest, the peg are better off lower, but with it, it's like sitting in a rocking chair, I don't know how I ever rode without one. Either way, with a backrest, you have better control, especially in the corners, and on the highway. IMO, it's the way to go, regardless of which you choose.

Either backrest is worth their weight in gold for me. Maybe I am old but the back sure likes the support on long rides. I have the manual one and have never adjusted it. Did mess with position of hwy pegs to get just right position. Can you say iron butt!!
