? for all you audio guru's
Thanks, Scott
I Idid a search and found that someone had commented that they may cut out. I called my local radio installer and he says he hassold lots of 4 ohm speakers for HD's and never had one come back with problems. He said a 4 ohm speaker will just have less volume with the same amount of power running with a 2 ohm deck. Any opinions or issues some of you have had with 4 ohm speakers?
Thanks, Scott
What I've seen on this forum most of the time is thoughts from people who have not necessarily been in the business, rather they have done stuff on their own through the years or gotten advice from their local installer (like you did) or guys like Pez from Hogtunes. While this can be an excellent way to get info or formulate an opinion, a pink refrigerator can become a purple elephant very quickly. But I digress...
After being in the stereo install business for nearly 15 years, I can tell you that what your local installer told you is spot on. One thing they failed to mention... you may need to turn up the volume so loud that you will be getting distortion much faster, thereby causing your speakers to possibly fail faster. That doesn't count the need for higher volumes at 70 mph either.
If you are going to go the "better than stock" speaker route, no mater what the nominal impedance of the speaker is you should really get an amplifier as well.

MM,
Thanks for the advice. Is a40-60W rangeamp enough?
1. Size of product - If it doesn't fit, I can't do it.
2. Quality of product - It might say it does 150 watts, but at what distortion level?
3. Price
4. Amount of power/power handling
Speakers are very subjective, so your ears are the best guide. 5 1/4" speaker will never really handle that much bass, except for a few brands of seperates. When considering those, you also have to consider the size of the crossover & where you can fit them. This is why I don't have the Infinty Perfect 5 1/4 mid-bass & tweeter set-up.
Getting a small enough to fit in the fairing, good quality amplifier is really the trick. You need to have something that will fit into the fairing. Two products that I would consider are Arc Audio & Blaupunkt, based on the size & quality. Stay away from the Pyle products. I purchased the Blau based on the price, very happy...if only I could fit the x-overs from the Perfects...
Plug & play products are nice (read easy)(HogTunes, Hawg Wired, etc) but I just can't believe that for the retail price and the actual size of the amplifier that they can be that high of a quality product (JMEO based on years of experience). That explanation could be a long post, but I really don't intended to disparage a site sponsor or the many people that are very happy with the product, which I'm quite sure work well.
