Default Pleased to meet you, first post!!!!

Hello dudes! from columbus ohio! Been lurking here for a couple months, manwhat a great forum, wish i would have found this before i bought my ultra! Learned so much and probably made some mistakes that i would not have if i found this sooner. Had motorcycles all my life, raced dirtbikes as a kid, (still do) had the crotch rockets all through college. (somehow lived through that stage). Bought a 95 fatboy when i graduated from osu and never looked back! Bought a 03 Roadking Classic. At that point i was just going to bike nights and short day trips. Then the event that changed my perspective for ever! My brother flew over from Germany, (he has lived there for the past11 years, has a road king) We flew to san francisco, and rented E-glides. Spent a week doing highway 1 heading down to LA. No words to desribe it, my bro who goes to every european hog ralley says that trip rivals anything in europe as far as scenery. What a great bonding experiance we shared. Got back to columbus, sold the king and ordered an 08 ultra!Did the Blue ridge parkway in late fall with 2 other road dogs, and over spring break did a week in ky (I am a teacher) found great back roads, distillaries, old bridges. These trips for me is what biking is all about. This june i am leaving wed am heading to Dallas via a couplenights in memphis and nashville, only schedule is to pick up the wife in dallas, visit some realatives there and in Austin, head to baton rouge, more kin, then come up the natchez trace back to ohio. 3 weeks, 1 w/o wife 2 with. best of both worlds. i could have never or wanted to do this on the fatboy. Now comments: Bike is the 2 tone black pearl white combo. Rush slip ons, up graded speakers, navigation. All before i found this forum. I think the gps was a mistake. After reading posts here, seems i should have got the zumo 550, the harley(harmon kardon) is extremely complicated, no touch screen, and you have so many steps to jump through we ended up using the map in ky. with practice should get easier. would not reccommend this 1100 doller option, clean looking though as it is built in. Per this forum ordered the backrest, hope it is good as you all say it is. Problems: Bike quit starting, took it in, after a week announced dead battery. replaced. Stereo quit working, then nav quit! Back in again, dealer had no explaination, ordered new radio/nav. comes in, they put new radio in can't fricking put the nav in!!! no explaination except they have to contact harley! ordered another nav i take my bike back in next sat to be put in. hope its done b4 my june trip. anyway, thats me, look forward to posting and sharing.per this forum got some leather from fox creek, wow! Thanks guys, cheers john. will do pics and avatar when i have time to figure it out!

Unquote.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with your brother.
I had a great time on highway 1 from LA to San Francisco
but I really can't say it rivals anything in Europe as far as scenery.
Did your brother go to Faakersee in the Austrian alps, and
did he tour the Swiss and Italian alps, or the HOG rally in Spain ?
Sweden/Norway/France ?

Absolutely breathtaking sceneries you cancome across in Europe

Hi Bucks, sorry that youv'e had trouble with you're '08, but glad to hear that you're happier riding the Ultra. I'm picking up my '08 Black Pearl/White Ultra today. I'm excited and nervous. I'm trading in my '06 Deluxe (loved the bike but hubby loves the long haul rides) after starting with a Sportster 1200XL.
As for the navigation, I'd rather study maps or use mapquest--we have navigation in one of the cars and never use it. If you continue to have problems, I'd demand a refund/credit--that shouldn't happen when you purchase new! I'm not adding anything electronic to my bike, I'm already intimidated by all the bells & whistles on the Ultra. Best wishes!
