I did. It was right were he listed it as. Between 16-13k but I didn't see anyplace pertaining to a rebuilt title. I have sent several emails to the guy. He is a member here as well. I have no reason to doubt what he mentioned regarding the repairs.

Yes, looks like a nice bike. Have you checked KBB & NADA to see what it's worth?

NADA reduces the value 50% for recon or slavage title as its somtimes called. So if its worth 16,000.00 then the recon title means its now worth 8,000.00. That not my oppion but it is the oppion of NADA and the banks.

Thanks for the info. I need to think about this some. The good thing is that I have some time.

I just bought a 03 road kin with a repair title. I'm glad I didn't let the repair title get in the way. Its a great bike for a great price. For me personally I don't care about the resale at least not for a few years. HD will still take it as a trade in down the road, I have already checked.

My 2 cents. Selling &or buying a bike to ride with a salvage title creates a lot of problems. The insurance companies put salvage titles on bikes to eliminate any liability on their part. Someone buys the bike repairs it to ride or sell then someone gets hurt on that bike. BAD NEWS I'd hate to lose all I worked for trying to save a couple grand on a bike. Again just my 2 cents.

My Harley dealer will not take a salvage title bike on trade.

Some insurance companies will not write a policy period on a salvage vehicle. Make sure you can insure it before you buy. If you cant insure it you cant tag it.

gvc4 brings up a good point I had forgot to say, The insurance companies do go by book value when paying a claim, I am not telling you these things to discouage you from buying but I feel you should know all the facts. I found this out the hard way. A couple of years ago I bought a SUV with a salvage title from a used car dealer. NADA was 15900.00 bought it 11000.00 great deal right. Wrong! Paying cash, not knowing anything about salavge titles and being a trusting person I took the guys word that its was no big deal. About 2mo later a guy ran a red light and wiped it out. You can bet his insurance was sure knew more than I did about the true value of my new SUV. At that time the book was like 15500.00 They paid me half the book value. I tried to fight it but they were completly within their rights to do this. So its not just how long you going to keep or that your local dealer may take it on trade, But you need to look at the hole [what if] picture. I didn't and it cost me @ 5000.00 in 2 months time. But its your money and if the deal is sweet enough then rest is upto you. Good luck with what ever bike you buy.

Here is a link to a simliar post about this issue the other day. https://www.hdforums.com/m_284824/tm.htm

I buy and sell bikes every day for a living. In the last year, my "repaired" sales have more than doubled, and my clean title sales have fallen way off. When most see how much they can save, and how little was really wrong with the bike, they go the repaired route. I think the price is fair. It's not a [sm=happy046.gif] bargain, but the price is fair. The last 02 Ultra I bought had 12000 miles on it. I paid about $9300.00 for it, and spent about $700.00 fixing it. It sold on Ebay for $12,700.00. This was a little less than a year ago, so I'd say you are in the ball park. I buy a lot of bikes from one company, so I get some pretty sweet buys. Depending on how many this guy gets, he may have close to that in his bike, and not be making much at all. Either way his profit/loss margin doesn't matter. What does, is that you are satisfied with the bike, and it's what you want. Ohio has some pretty strict slavage laws, so I'm sure you'd be fine in NC. If something don't work out on it, let me know. I've got about 18 in stock right now.

my 03 rkc has a "flood" title, which, i was not told about when i bought the bike, didnt find out till i got the title 2 weeks later.
i have every right to sue this loser who sold it to me, but its not worth the money it will cost in leagal fees, so i have to eat it.
i talked to my local stealer, and they told me, and they said the speak for every harley dealer, they WILL not take it as a trade, due to the liabilty issues. i was told, by them, it has NO value! so i just deal with it. im dealing with some minor electrical probs now, and pray it does not get worse.
my opinion, if you plan on keeping it, screw it, good deal, but i would take it to a dealer, like i did, and paid the shop rate for them to go over every single nut and bolt, connection, cost me 450.00, but what that did, is IF, i say have an accident, and someone else gets hurt, and yes, the ins. co. will use that against me, well, as least i have a receipt, from an auth. stealer, that states the bike is mech. sound. this was on the advice of my attorney. something well worth 450.00.

good luck

One, I'd stay away from a flood bike. Sounds like AcidRayn got screwed. Just curious, did you buy your RKC from a dealer or an individual? The $450.00 he spent was probably good money. An ins. co. will tell you all sorts or "war stories" about what they will or won't pay on a claim etc. The value aspect of it may be true. The "it's your fault because your bike was repaired" is BS. Every bike that get's fixed has to be inspected by the State Police. If it's not mech. sound, then it don't pass. No ins. co. is gonna fight with the police when it comes down to it. Not saying they won't try to feed you a big line, and hope you take it. As far as a dealer saying it's "worthless", most every bike they trade for, they steal. I'd never suggest anyone try to trade with an H-D dealer. There is enough demand on the street for used bikes, that you can get a lot more out of it by selling it yourself. Bear in mind, if they talk you out of the bike you are wanting to buy, then they get a shot at selling you a new one. Personally, I don't care what you buy, it's not really my business. Just keep in mind, the people like HD dealers, and ins. cos, have a motive behind what they tell you. This could be the best bike you ever own, or it could be the biggest nightmare. No way to really tell until you own it. Out of 35 repaired bikes last year, I had ZERO problems, and 35 extremely happy customers. Hope your luck is as good as theirs, either way you go.
