I would be the seller in this case,........ The bike has been rebuilt & inspected in Ohio. It has a Rebuilt, not salvage title. The Rebuilt title is good in all 50 states as far as i know.
I bought the bike last June & rode it all summerr. Registered as an 02 Harley, with Harley VIN & No problem getting insurance. For the guy that said the rebuilt is only worth 50% of the value??????????? Don't know where you came up with that, but it wasn't in any market I've seen. Pretty simply put, you have no idea what you are talking about. Show me a rebuilt 02 Ultra, in very good shape for $6000 to $8000 and I'll show you ten guys who would buy it, in any mmarket.

my .02 in the car end of it any salvage / rebuild titles or TMU true mileage unknown are valued @ .50 on the dollar.
bikes well i cant say forsure ???
me personally i would use the same rule, but then again i wouldnt buy a bad title.
there are a ton of flood bike out there right not from the recent hurricanes. they are selling as/is for pennies on the dollar.
with floods you never know what your getting. they tend to develope problems over time and can be major. wires internally corrode and get worse eventually loosing most if not all connections.

I would never buy a salvage title bike. You just do not know all that has been damaged or how it was repaired. The frame may be bent, the swing arm or the pivot shaft, and the transmission case.

Dont do it. You can find good enough deals on perfect bikes now there is no need to buy a problem. You dont know until you get into it what is wrong.

I'm the guy who said its worth half, You need to pickup a nada book and read before you go tell people they don't know what there talking about, And I would be better informed and choose my words a little more carfully next time. I'm just trying to help this guy from making the same mistake I did. As I said "thats not my oppion" But nada and banks set the value of a salvage at 1/2 the listed value. Read a nada or kelly book after you add or deduct oppions and mileage there is then a section that clearly states "DEDUCT 50% FOR SALAVAGE TITLE". Can you buy one for that? Most likly not. Is it worth more than that in real life? Most likly yes. But the man ask "does it affect the value?" The anwser is YES it does. Oppions are a great thing but when some one is asking a question about spending there hard earned money I would reather give them facts other than oppions. If he buys it great, But at least he has the information to make a informed decision. Thats just my cent and a half.

Al,
Sure didn't want this to turn ugly. I have no doubt on the bike being straight. You have been very honest and upfront with me. I really need to check with my insurance and DMV first. You know my situation so it might be a bit before I can do so.

That would be why he will be able to buy a $16000.00 bike for well under that but I can promise he won't find one for 50% of that.

tell me where I can buy one for 50% retail... & I'll buy it. Comparing cars & harleys is like comparing apples & elephants..... there is no comparison. It's obvious from your posts that when it comes to rebuilt harleys you should learn a little bit more about the subject before you post incorrect information.

Seems theres always gotta be one in every group. Looks like you it. Thats why people hate to try and help others out. But I'm sure you must be correct you seem to more than the rest of us. A salavge title is a salavge title. I don't care whats hooked to the other end of it. You think a insurance give a s%$t if its a Harley or a moped. NO is the correct anwser. Stop making this 50% thing my oppion, Its not. But it is facts. I'm done with this subject. Abnmarine: good luck in your search. alazlo: well; never mind.

Listen, just do your homework and CYA. If it's what you want then go for it. I listened to all the horror stories from the same people and it almost turned me away, but in the end I got a great bike for a great price and couldn't be happier.

My guy that I got my bike from is a certified HD shop and he doesn't screw around with people. I've talked in depth with him and several of his customers (he even supplied phone numbers for me to call and talk to some of his customers to see if they were happy with thier purchase) and none had any problem getting full coverage ins and no problem getting back what they paid for the bike on resale. Yes you pay less for the bike so you can expect less on trade in, but he has customers that have even made a profit on some of his bikes. All of his bikes are inspected by DOT and HD before it gets a title.

Personally I agree you need to protect yourself, but don't let these doom and gloom stories get to you. Get the bike, ride the hell out of it, and be happy. If you want an investment then go buy some stocks and bonds, otherwise just ride!
