CADES COVE IS BEST FROM A CAR. WE WERE THERE THIS WEEK AND IF YOU LIKE ROUGH ROADS AND STOP AND GO AT 3 MPH YOU WILL LIKE IT THE 11 MILE LOOP TOOK OVER AN HOUR DRIVE TIME AND WORE ME OUT!
Well back from Tennessee, it was a great trip with several challenges to make it interesting. We traveled a total of 2090.6 miles through 7 states in 7 days with no major problems. Pigeon Forge is a great place, but more family oriented then we were looking for. So if youâre looking for a place to take the kids this is it. The next time we do this trip I think weâll stay in Gatlinburg. The mountains were beautiful, but the weather did not cooperate very well. We were only staying in the area for 3 days, so on day two with no better forecast then 60% rain, we donned our gear and decided we were here and so we were going to ride the dragon no matter what.[sm=yikesomg.gif] We started out with cloudy skies and a bit of a drizzle, and were lucky enough to finish under the same conditions. I know Iâve heard a lot of stories about 129 the dragon, the truth is the driver doesnât see much but the passenger seeâs a bunch if they trust the driver. Anyway Iâm really glad we made the ride and the pictures my wife took from the back of the bike really amazed me, well because I didnât see it during the ride. So I get to say I rode the dragon, on a cool rainy day and didnât crash once! No I know what youâre thinking I didnât crash more then once either. I would say well worth it, not for the bragging rights but because itâs fun with a big F. At 53 years old Iâm always looking for something new, something interesting and something fun. This was all of that Thanks for the information, and the tips from all the forum members but unfortunately this trip was very limited by the weather but of course thereâs always next year.

As others have mentioned 441 between Cherokee & Gatlinburg is a good ride although rv's are plentiful at times. Little River Road in the Smoky Mountain Park is a good ride as is the Foothills Parkway. The Blueridge Parkway is a good choice too.[sm=biker2.gif]
I took the Natchez trace from Natchez north to Nashville - nice ride but going that far at 50 mph; got very very old after a while. I had a great time in E. TN and NC. The dragon was less of a challenge than I expected but its full of rice rockets and kids in cagers trying to make it to the top in record speed. I enjoyed the Cherohala and had a great ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I'm planning another trip in the fall and will spend more time in NC this trip. A three day trip is far too short and way too many miles per day for my liking.
Travel safe and try to avoid the dragon on the weekend.
If needed, Smokey Mountain Harley in Marysville is good...even just to visit. Have Fun!

We just returned yesterday from our (car) vacation to Pigeon Forge via Memphis and I got a Harley leather jacket I liked off the clearance rack from Smokey Mountain Harley Davidson in Maryville, TN.
Nice store with a good selection of merchandise and friendly staff but was not real impressed with the stores in Pigeon Forge (we went in there the first time about 8:40 PM and was greeted with a "you only have 20 min. then we close" type thing, or the Gatlinburg store where there is NO parking and NO choice of stuff. Anyway, I got what I wanted in Maryville. Wife got her jacket from Bost or Boost or something like that, I forget, H-D in Nashville off the clearance rack as well, nice store also BTW.
