Default noises????

My 06FLHP-I is my first Harley. When I ride I'm hearing a sort of clicking noise, especially in higher gears. Is this normal? I also get a clunk noise when I shift gears. This noise doesn't really bother because my Honda did the same thing (the Honda only did it from 1st to 2nd, my RK does it with every shift). Is this normal. I wanted to have the bike checked out before my warranty is up on 5/28. This bike is way noisier than my Honda was (which is great) and I just want to be sure all these noises should be there.

For the most part, you're going to have noises. As for the clunk, that's famous. Try changing to a good synthetic tranny fluid like Amsoil, Redline, Mobil 1 and you might find that it disappears.

Redline shockproof might help the clunk. Clicking is probably one of the valve train parts making noise. I think most of the TC 88's make that noise. Mine did. Never got worse or better, just stayed the same till I sold the bike.

LOL, yes these bikes have their noises... Certainly not the purring wonders that the Japs build. At idle they shake a bit, they have little rattles and ticks but that's just how they are. I'll be turning 76,000 miles this week and the bike has had these little noises but yet runs like a top and I've had no problems with it. It starts every single time without a hitch and has never let me down. I think if these noises were actually something serious the bike would have ended up in the shop by now for sure.

I actually do wear earplugs but I didn't have them yesterday. That's when I heard all these noises that I'm sure were there since day 1, I just never heard them. Back on with the plugs I guess.

What you are hearing is all the character and soul of the Harley Davidson. And you can always tell what kind of mood she is in depending on the noises she is making that day.
