Default IDS Service Bulletin M1216

I was wondering how many 07 owners who have added the IDS have re-torqued to 80lbs from 60. I think this service bulletin was for 08's. I know there has been discussion on whether this applies to 07's or is just an 08 problem. Has anyone checked with their dealerships to see if this applies to 07's with the added IDS?

Had the dealer add IDs to mine over the winter.

Which bolts are they talking about? The ones you can see when you remove the hard bag?

If so, I can retorque them myself without dragging it back to the dealer.

Thanks...

I had dealer add IDS to my '07 Ultra. They called MOCO but could not get a good straight answer. They told them to just check the torque when bike is in for service. Dealer thinks it must just aplly to the '08's then. They are still checking with MOCO on regular basis to see if anything changes.

I think the IDS setup is identical on the 07s and 08s. Seems to me that it would apply to the 07s as well.

So you are keeping yours at 60lbs. then? I have a feeling if I call my dealer they are not gonna know. When they say 'just have the torque checked at regular services', is that just to see if they are loose? If not loose then keep them at 60lbs?
Here is the bulletin and how it reads.

2008 TOURING MODELS SERVICE MANUAL (PART NO. 99483-08)
1. SEE ISOLATOR REPLACEMENT UNDER 2.5 REAR WHEEL COMPENSATOR. IN THE ASSEMBLY INSTUCTIONS, CORRECT STEP 1, ITEM B TO READ "ALTERNATELY TIGHTEN HEX SCREWS TO 60 FT-LBS. IN THE PATERN SHOWN IN FIGURE 2-9." ADD STP 1, ITEM C TO READ "BACK OFF HEX SCREWS AND RETIGHTEN TO 80 FT-LBS IN AN ALTERNATE PATTERN"
2. SEE PAGE XV UNDER TORQUE VALUES. REPLACE "ISOLATOR BOWL HEX SCREWS" TORQUE TO READ " 60 FT-LBS, LOOSEN, 80 FT-LBS.

Those five bolts (hex screws) are made to stretch when torqued down and need to be replaced any time they are removed. If you're going to loosen and retorque them yourself, I'd use a new set.

My dealer also said they think the bolts were changed on some of the later '08's and that is why the change in torque values.

You should not see any bolts when the left side bag is removed. The bolts are under the pulley...

Correctamundo! Have to take the wheel off to check them.
