come now if no unions we would all be earning $1.50/hr except the CEO. The working guy isnot the problem. It's the fatcat at the top raking off millions in wages and bonuses. Then the profits must be high or else everyone leaves the sandboxwith their loot.Hence high prices.Ihave worked both union and non union many timesove35 yearsand thank
God for the unions. We have safety laws, labor laws and many nonunion people making good wages as a result of organized labor.Yes they do have their shortcomings like everything else. But I'd still rather have them.

Ya know what! Union this, upper management that. Admit it, most of the guys slammin' the CEOs and supporting the union are union guys, right? Same for the union slammers, although there are a lot of non-union guys that were union, glad to be out. Kinda like ricers and Harleys ain't it? We like to argue, don't we? The fact is, if tomorrow, someone offered a union guy a CEO position making piles of money, would he say no thanks, I don't believe in corporate America? No, not only no, but hell no! He'd take the bonus check and buy more toys. Now the posts are thanking god for unions, I wonder if he knows where Hoffa is? Wait! What if somebody doesn't believe in God, can they still get in the union? Also, "When something goes wrong it must be caused by the Democrats or the Unions !", what is up with that? Since I like to sit right on the fence, does this mean Republicans and non-union members are never responsible for something that goes wrong. At the risk of being crass, it's time to say, "SCREW IT! LET'S RIDE!"

Gee, could it be the UNION costs and the UNION rules that would make that jacker cost $2000? You want things made in America, get competitive.I'm sick of UNIONS an what they did to my father --See Allis Chamlbers being bought out by Duetz and what the UNION did to 31 workers.

Don't get caught up in repeating B.S. you have heard in the bar about unions. I have been in unions all my life, Teamsters, AFL-CIO, AFSCME, sorry about your Dad, my Dad retired as a union employee after 36 yrs.

You know, I was going to respond to the union think but I really don’t think you hard core union folks have a clue. Perhaps it’s just my line of work. In any case, this guy makes a point and that is buying American, I do believe in that. Oh, and Unions have nothing to do with that. Get a real job!

I've been union, been non-union, union again now. I believe this much about unions; if there were no unions at all, working conditions would decline. Corporations have never cared about the common man and they never will. Should they make a good profit? Sure. But, should they make more because they treat their workers like sub-humans. No. All I've ever asked for is a fair wage for a fair day's work. I'll never be rich, but I don't work for nothing. I'll not buy Chinese stuff if I can, but man is that tough. I went to Home Depot for a saw blade, there was not a single one that wasn't made in China. I bought one at a small town hardware store that was U.S. made. I paid more for it, but somehow felt better. If we ever have to fight a really big war again we're going to be in trouble. We don't have the manufacturing base to convert to a war footing anymore.

Here's the way it looks from the other side of the fence. I own a ladiesshirting company, we have always taken pride in the fact that we are made in America. We've held on for 14 years slugging it out with foreign made products sold by our competitors who were eating our lunch with their prices. It finally got to the point that we were losing our *** and had to look for something else or shut the doors.

We found a factory in China that produces a product that is superior to the one we've been making in the US for a lot less in labor cost; a lot less (50%). After finding the right fit my partner and designer went to the factory in China to oversee the first run of shirts. Not only did we find that they make incredible clothes but their equipment is better than what we had here and has saved us approx. 20% in fabric.

So, in the end between labor and fabric we've saved just under $20 per shirt. We sold 56,000 shirts last year, you do the math! This is all money that drops to the bottom line. We still have design, sales and distribution here but our production is gone.

Great point but we here in the US Union Halls are so inclined to give up our dues ($$) that we can’t read labor laws. Get real folks.

Exactly! Same or better! Cheaper! Believe it or not, these are very educated and advanced people carving out a place on Earth. The images of grass huts and rice bowls are for TV, sure there are poor farmers and the like but this is a quickly developing country. As I said in an earlier post, watch for India, next followed by VietNam.

"Yep, they have done a lot of good over the years. But, they have outlived their uesfulness. In today's world they have become a burden. "

Well there some thingsthat you might think about.
Is it the union or the companys that want more part time employees than full time.
Walmart and all the normal big companies want part timers and then work them over to 40 hours. This way they do not have to offer a medical pakage to the employee. If a Union was in placesome of the cheap scape companyswould find it very hard to use this protcol on hourly employees. I would say that the Union has not out lived its purpose, but that the common american now can not get a fair shake on there job. Its bad when a ban of people can run a company out the USA due to there profit margin is not being met and the CEO not getting all the money.

I would LOVE to see the company fatcats and CEO's live and raise a family on the wages they are paying with the same benefit packages that the average family makes in thier company. To the ones that speak of moving work to china because of the cost of Unions. Are we forgetting it costs next to nothing to live over there? If they pay them a dollar a day it is a raise. Are we forgetting the children that are working in these sweatshops? Are we all for exploiting chjildren at the cost of products being cheaper?

Times have changed, how many of you have had to job hunt in the past 10 years without a job due to downsizing , (or in republican) rightsizing.

Sorry simpkins but you point is mute as gas has gone up 100% in the past 3 years, how much has your employees wages gone up?
