Are you guys over torquing the thing? Manual says 13 ft/lbs...that ain't much!

Mac
My manual says 20-30 in/lbs. Thanks for all the suggestions. The dealer drove in the one that popped out. If I have anymore trouble with it I'll use JB Weld. I'm a big fan of that stuff too. As for the blue loc-tite... that scares me. Seems that if the brass inserts come out so easy, then adding loc-tite would just make it worse. Tell this isn't the case...

All the blue loctite does is assure the bolt, screw or nut won't vibrate loose or off. The screw will break loose easy with a screwdeiver or wrench, , but won't vibrate out. And beleve me most of the nuts and bolts on the Harley will vibrate or work loose over time. I spent over two hours going over screws, nuts and bolts with blue loctite. You only need a small drop on the part for it to work fine.

The dealer should be able to fix you up with new self tapping insert.
I dont have the part number handy, but do know they have a slot at the bottom to assist in clearing the debris as you thread it into the existing old hole.
Thread a nut on the stud and use it to lock it down onto the insert.
Square it up before starting the self tap process and Bobs yer Uncle.
Unlock the nut from the stud and you should be good 2 go.

The replacement ones screw in and will never fail you. Cheap at the dealership too.

You can get the fairing screws plenty tight by hand, there's no need to torque on them with a ratchet. Here's a thread about the replacement inserts...
