Looking for some feedback on skid lid helmets. I know there are plenty of novelty skid lids out there but I am looking for anyone who is wearing a DOT APPROVED skid lid. I've done the search and most of the threads are pretty old. I know all heads and helmets are very different and ordering one on-line is at best a luck of the draw but selection in my area is pretty limited other than the local HD dealers.
http://www.carbonfiberhelmets.com/ check these guys out, I have two of their non DOT's. Most comfortable lid I've had, no lift, no helmet head due to the padding. They claim to have the smallest DOT lids. Give them a call and they'll explain the diff. between the two. The non DOT passes all tests except for spear test, which it just penetrates shell and not liner. Pricey, but worth it.
i tried to find skid lids local and the 2 shops don't have them anymore. i ordered a daytona DOT and it is smaller than my other DOT but again another helmet i hate to wear. it's too bulky for me. i 've always worn beanies (mainly to keep my glasses from blowing off) and moving up to a DOT is proving to be a fitment/weight problem. i think i'm going to try the advanced carbons DOT. 1 more try for a "good"helmet .
I wear the cyber u-69 but just ordered a new model in flat black u-70. It is DOT certified and of all the half helmets these seem to fit me the best. The cyber helmets don't give you mushroom head either.
My first one I bought from the local HD dealer. Theynever kept on the shelves it was always a ask for item. I went byto buy one last weekend and was told they stop carrying them. The sells girl saidthey prefer to sell the HD brand helmets.
I've worn the skid lid last three years. I like it, probably my favorite. But, I purchased a carbon fiber, outlaw, from leather up. About the same helmet, lighter in weight, with snap on that allows a shield if needed. I look fondly at the skid lid as I put on the outlaw. Both about same price.
