I use my kill switch every time I shut down, never any problem, I can't even make this idle thing happen when I try on my bike.

Have A 08 EG two weeks, 2700 miles. Happened 4 times. Its a pain in the a$$.
I don't rev the bike , thats bullsh!t. I do shut it with the kill switch. I'm trying not to but its old habit.
When every one is pulling away and you are cycling your switch it $ucks.

I took this very question to ( TBW over revving) to the Motor Companys top tech support guys this last weekend, while I was attending Primary Officer Training put on by HarleyDavidson at the Red Rock Convention in Vegas.

They said, " There has never been an issue with the throttle going wide open, but there is an issue with the idle resetting it's calabrations in the field."
They ( HD Tech support) also said, There is a fix, or re-flash to fix it,other than thecurrentfix of cycling the key 4 times. The new 08's built as of today, already have this fix.

I should have asked when I could get my 08 fixed. But I was in Vegas, with other things on my mind.

Hmmm. I've never noticed the "problem" because I'm not stupid enough to shut off the engine while winding it up. Motorcycles, in general, require more thought and care to operate than a car. If it is too complicated for you, there are some dandy little scooters with automatic transmissions. Don't forget to wave.

It is interesting reading this thread but I would like to comment about my experiences. I just took a trip down to Vegas and rented a ECG 2008 bike with 4000 miles onit. I had read on this site about the TBW issues and when I found out I was getting an '08 bike I was very careful to shut the throttle off completely before shutting off the bike. I NEVER use the kill switch on the handlebar to shut of my or any other bike by the way. Mypersonal bike is a 2006 Street Glide. I picked up the bike and took off from the rental place and it was idling at approx. 1000 rpm...I stopped at a store and shut the bike off properly. Upon restart it idled at 2000 rpm and would not come down. Now I found if you push the throttle forward from center the idle will be forced down to 1000 rpm so I did this then shut it off thinking it would reset to 1000 again. It doesn't...this went on for around 30 miles on my ride to Henderson...I could ride the bike just fine really and other than it hanging at 2k rpm when I stopped at a light or whatever it really wasn't that big of a problem. I stopped in Henderson and called the rental shop and told them the problem and they said it will reset after it completely warms up and then is shut off. Now it was around 92 degrees out and I had ridden 30 miles and told him it is certainly warmed up by now and I have shut it off now 4 times to no avail...we stopped for the night and the next morning upon start up it went back up on fast idle of 2000 rpm again...I rode it to the gas station about 10 miles away and shut it off to fuel. Upon restart it was fine idled at 1000 and stayed that way for our week long 1300 mile ride with no additional problems...go figure...
Just thought I would share my experience from last week for whatever it is worth...

Any other '08 owners, TBW or not, want an internet *** whippin? Come and get it!!!

Amazing some actually breathe good air somebody worth a crap could be breathing.
yeah, so hold your breath so the rest of us can use the air!

the tbw situation does have a glitch, that glitch is that it is too easy for the owner to reset his own throttle setting. i imagine that hd will do some kind of ecm flash that will make it a more convoluted process to reset the idle but until then, if you have this problem, you should know that YOU did it....

They could have made it so that every time someone didn't shut the engine down properly
that it would require a trip to the dealer. I think the hole thing has been put together nicely.
Still no problems since my lastpost.

I just had this happen on my ride home. Bike started fine and rode well. First stop sign I pulled the clutch in at the bike was idling at 1800 rpm's. I could roll it forward to get it back to normal, but once I left it go it returned to 1800 rpm. No big deal, no drama, no life threatening situation. I rode the ten miles or so to get home and did the reset outlined above.
WHAT"S THE BIG DEAL? Sure, I would like HD to fix this so it doesn't happen on a regular basis. But I would classify this as a minor annoyance rather than a life or death situation. If you can't handle this you probably shouldn't be piloting an 800lb motorcycle.

The only problem I have had is the throttle would not return and stuck where ever you had it when you let go. Simple fix, they lubed the throttle and it freed up and works fine. I guess throttle blippers will have to use the cable system in order to continue doing that or remember to reset the idle before they start the engine.

Guys, the good news is the 09 models do not have this problem. You soon will be able to buy the 09 fix and install it yourself. Its called the ITS (Isolated Throttle System). It will be available as a retrfit part for about $200. Available soon.....
