Default Road Glide Fairing trim.

The rubber fairing trim/edging was coming off again for the 4th time.Since I have the extended warranty I did not want to pay the $50 deductable and have the hassle of dropping it off.Who knows, may have been covered under the original warranty. But the dealer did a shitty job of repairing last time.
Any way I remove the fairing and start the work.I read somwhere to use Goof Off to remove the adhesive..Well be warned, the stuff will discoler the black plastic on the fairing.I ended up scraping off most of the adhesive from the fairing and deburred the edges.
I reused the plastic edging.I had to scrap the inside with a screwdriver to remove the snotty/sticky/booger like adhesive. There most of been 3 layers of the crap. The dealers must not have taken the time to clean the old stuff out and just kept appling layer after layer of snot.
I used the Goof Off to clean the inside of the edging after scraping.
Reglued with Loctite super glue.
I had to touch up the outside edges of the inner fairing with flat black paint to fix the etched plastic because of the Goof Off.Cant tell any difference.
If this happens again,I will start with new edging.

Thanks for the tips. Mine is also starting to come off at the top right hand side. I have only been into the fairing once but now I am not worried about taking it off. Next time I go in, I want to fix that edging and make it stay put.

Hopefully the Loctite Super Glue will hold like yours. The stuff the dealer and factory uses is to sensitve to heat.
What I think is stupid is the last dealer only reglued the old edging/trim without cleaning it or just using new.

3M makes a "plastic emblem & trim adhesive" that was the only thing I found that stuck it down and kept it down. (I didn't try superglue becasue I was afraid it might melt the plastic) I found it at Autozone.

That's why you use a toothpick on the superglue. Good luck with your "trim adhesive" (contact cement).
