We're all welcome to express our views. I have to admit I do not subscribe to aftermarket parts being less reliable than factory, so let's build what each of us prefers!

I'm just curious to know if he's had any first hnd experience with aftermarket parts being "unreliable". I've tuned tons of bikes with, other than SE cams, that pull really hard in lower RPM's. Oh well, to each his own.

Aftermarket parts are individual companies building parts for bikes.
HD does not build all the parts they sell. A lot of their parts build for them.

If you knew much about this you would understand more about Reliable.
One thing is HD builds part that are EPA compliant.

Me personally I do everthing I can do to take the EPA parts OFF my bike.
When it gets to where you can not take the EPA parts off the bike I will not longer own a new bike. Let HD sell the bikes to the EPA.

A reliable bike is build to reliable specifications. YOu just don't throw parts together.

Sounds like you need to sit down and talk to somebody at a Indy shop.
You sound like you been brainwashed.

There are a lot of Vendors on here that could also help you with this.

i understand aftermarket and reliable. what im talking about is putting a bunch of parts into a engine that is already proven, just to get a few more hp and tq out of. engine builders and tuners know that if u make something stronger, or give a engine more power u weaken something esle or shorten its lifespan. as for epa there here to stay and hope ur state doesnt require a sniffer test for a state inspection, but its coming. i've been a mechanic for 22 years and i sean alot of people mess up alot of engines by monkeying around on them, im not saying its wrong to build a strong engine or try and get every ounce of power out of it, i just think some people go overbored on these engines, spending thousands of dollars for cams, ex, fuel modules, etc and then a tuner has to tune it, more money, i think all these aftermarket companies and hd have us brainwashed for spending this money on parts just for a few more hp and tq. but i do understand that everybody has the right to do what ever they want to, so i apologize if i steped any toes.

No toes stepped on here. Just a difference in opinion. People spend thousands to make their HD's look better (in their opinion) too. As far as performance work goes. Pumping them up should make them even more reliable than stock. If done right. The unreliability goes hand in hand with poor maintainence. I pumped up motor doesn't work near as hard as a stock one. We put out 130+ 113's all the time, and our customers seam to have no problem getting 50,000+ miles on them. (have a bunch of them heading to Sturgis next week. Heck, i'm only putting out HP in the low 120's but I put around 10,000 a year on mine, not to mention that it gets about 4 or 5 full tunes a summer. I do forsee some problems in the future with 107" kits though. I'm not sure how long the stock cranks will hold up to the kind of power well built 107" makes.

Sarge i was afraid i'd ruffle some feathers with my reply and that wasnt my intention. If you were wanting to build a serious BAD-*** bike SE parts probably wouldnt be the choice. BUT! If you want a quiet, nice idling, cross country touring bike, my recommendation was SE parts. And NO i dont work for Harley. Good luck Sarge in whatever direction you choose.
