Does anyone seem to have issues with their paint? I have a 2008 SG w/ 2800 miles on it and the fender and batwing are dinged and marred up like crazy. To the point that they wil need to be repainted this year. It seems as if the paint is "soft", the chips go right to the fiberglass and to the metal on the fender.
I know someone will say that I am getting hit by sand and stones, but I haven't ridden this one any different than any of my others. I don't tailgate, and typically ride on 2 lanes off the beaten path. I haven't noticed any rock/sand blasts when I am on it. Here in South Dakota we have just gotten to riding season, late snows. I traded in a 2007 w/ 6,000 miles on it and it didn't have any marks on the fairing. I wouldn't think that bugs would do this to it. ????????
I just got my first chip on the front fender. I've 60K on a 2000 Road King. And I'm in Montana. I'd be rolling back into the dealer and get some answers. The longer you wait, the worse it will get. Raise the flag NOW! Let them know you are not happy with the paint, and give em noise. If need be, elevate it to the regional HD Rep. They have always, and I repeat always been responsive with me when I reason with logic and long suffering. DONT TAKE NO for an answer. They can always do something, and with that little bit of mileage, it sounds like something is wrong. Good Luck, CCRyder
I have a 2008 vivid black. The paint is cracking on the front fender. The bike is 2 weeks old. I took it to the dealer yesterday and havent heard back from them yet.

I can understand taking this bike back, but a chip could have been caused by anything. The dealer can't warranty rocks and debris. I don't think.

\\; \\; It wasnt a chip in the paint. It was a crack that devloped into a piece of paint coming off.
\\; The good news is after going at it with HD and the dealer. The dealer is ordering a new fender to make me happy(Dealer eating the cost) \\;and HD denied the claim. I guess thats how the factory like to keep customers.
