Default Taking off outer fairing???

I am having a difficult time locating a dealer who has the service manual for my 07 FLHT. I plan on trying to install fairing mirrors and I am guessing that I will have to gain access. I see the torx screws surrouding the fairing. It looks like the headlight will have to come out? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.....

first off, you don't have to remove the windshield. In addition to the torx screws that go around the inside (six I think, its been awhile) there are two 1/2" or 9/16" bolts down low on each side on the inside.

The outer faring comes off easy enough but its a PITA going back on.

Headlight will come out with the fairing. In addition to the torx screws you can see around the edges, there are two at the bottom, tucked just to the inside of the fork tubes.....

On my Ultra I removed:

3 fairing screws at the top, 1 screw in the middle both sides, 1 screw at the bottom both sides.

Removed windshield

removed light bar with the driving lights

unplugged headlight cable and then unplugged driving lights cable.

That was it I did not remove the headlight.

Fet a seconf pair of hands to hold faring.

Real easy.

Put some old socks over your running lights so you don't scratch the fairing.

Three torx across the top. Take those out and gently pull the front fairing away a bit and remove your windshield.

4 more torx, one on each side in the back about where the mirrors are going to go. and the others up on the inside of your forks. Turn the wheel all the way and look in there way down at the bottom and you'll find them.

Lift the fairing off - it's very light, and hold it with one hand and unplug the headlamp with the other and it's off. The headlight stays in the outer,

Hope that helps!

Get the mirrors first as they have a templete to use to drill the four holes (mirror stem and stop for each side). Taking the outer fairing off is a snap as you will need to remove the two torx (#27) screws on each side (one slightly hidden behind chrome skirt) and then the three torx screws holding the windshield. Protect your fender from accidently dropping the fairing on it., although if you have driving lights they will hold it up. Once you pull the fairing, you will then need to unplug the headlight and off it comes. Place windshield and outer fairing in a protected place to keep from damage. Use the templete todrill the holes, thenmount the mirrors andreinstall the outer fairing. Do not overtighten torx screws!!!! 20-30 in-lbs.

What RonH said above -- easy peasy. One caution, though, be sure to use the right torx driver so you don't strip out the torx screws. On mine it's a T27.

If you have chrome trim for your windshield the screws will be phillips.
