Sounds like a bad ground. Remove the fairing outer and test to see if you are getting proper current. The wire harness in the guage has w wires hot-ground plus the light bulb. Trace the wires in the fairing to make sure nothing is pinched.

My 02 does the same thing. When it's full it doesn't bounce. After about 25 miles it's all over. I am going to check my ground when I replace my bars in a week or so. It could also be the sending unit or gauge itself. I have seen on other posts/boards that a lot of time it is the gauge.

Looking at the fuel gage is a bad idea ,you better off every 150 mile \\; fill it up \\; \\; cant go wrong this way
