i must of forgot spell check sorry for my inability to \\;use it or for not having a dictionary handy.
 \\;
i wasn't trying to come off as a dick \\; all i am saying is when you ask a stupid question that you clearly didn't take the time to ether read up on and or \\;research it before coming right out and asking a the \\;stupid question, you should expect \\;to get a little razing. \\;
but the same guys that give you the hard time probably answered the question \\;while giving you a hard time. personally i don't know how you and your friends interact with each other but mine we all give each other a hard time but if one of us needs help or a stupid question answered were there for them.
 \\;i laugh at all these so called hard core guys and the newbies because \\;one bitches about the other and the other just ran out and bought what was the new cool thing \\;or the biggest baddest new HD out. \\;
 \\;why i laugh at both of these groups is because neither have a clue about what riding is about they both just wanna be cool. and them trying so hard is what makes me laugh.
I call that the Darwin Theory. By needing to pull the clutch in or start it in neutral, the moco is hoping they can get rid of a few of the mentally challenged, who would tarnish their image or give them a bad name. \\; Case in point.......Does a chainsaw come with a warning label stating that this saw will cut human limbs as well as tree limbs? \\; I believe that warning labels are costing us more money. The longer challenged people live, the more they multiply, thus more accidents and higher insurance premiums for all.  \\; \\; My comment is not intended for anyone, Just my observation. \\;
I think the earlier built 07s' can go either way. \\;\\\\\\; I've worked on a few CVOs' that all started in gear. Personally my 5/07 SG does not start in gear with the clutch in or out. \\;\\\\\\;
I have an '07 with an Oct. 2006 build date and it has a safety switch on the clutch lever. Thus, it won't start except in neutral or with the clutch depressed. Of course I bought some pre-'07 chrome levers that disable the switch, so mine will only start in neutral, which has been my habit for decades anyway.
In Europe they have to have the Jiffy stand down. \\; The 08's have the wiring for it. \\; As for the US, I'm not sure if it's because of lawsuits or government regs. \\; The safety switdh is there deal with it!

So, what you're trying to say is the hard core guys don't have a clue about ridin', they're just like all the new, "Look at me, I got a Harley now" guys? \\; Just one question, how long you been ridin' that you can make a statement like that? \\; Most of the guys I know come under those two categories, the hard core who live, eat and sleep Harleys and will ride until the frickin' earth stops spinnin', then there's the faction that own a Harley because they think having a Harley makes them cooler. \\; Thirdly, there is the vast majority, somewhere in between, but I'm just curious exactly what do I have to do to get a clue about riding?
If you want to own a Harley then own one, I wish you all the best.
But know this, the things (or lack of) being discussed here are what make it a Harley. If you want safety \\;buy another brand, but please lets leave the things that make it our chosen brand alone.....
 \\;
Ride safe and have a nice day.
For all the guys that think we need some more "safety" features on our Harleys, I have a great one for you. Send me your frickin keys that way you won't get hurt. Come on take some responsibility for yourselves. Adding things makes for complexity and complexity equal perplexity. You remember when they came out with the improved compensater, we got the IDS to solve that problem. Or how about "fly by wire" throttle I guess they cables were so last century, BUT THEY WORKED! I am sure we can all think of improvements of things in our lives that weren't, stop the nonsense!!!!!!!!!!! Just my $.02 worth.
Thanks Frog13,
I am in the right place. I understand what you mean. I just got my drawers in a wad at the newbie comment. Hey osolow, we can have some FUN here now.
I feel priveladged to be a member of the Harley-Davidson family and am looking forward to having fun here and on \\;my bike.
Thanks to All,
Ken
I will probably have a lot of questions and now \\;see that I will get answers from all.
See my newbie introduction. \\;
Hey all .....thanks for all the replys sorry if i sounded like a smart a-s didn't mean to. I'm okay with all input this is America everyone can have his/her own opinion. I personally understand the mechanics of the bike. I just was surprised that it was so easy to oop's with the start button. I'm not saying it's a bad design. My point is saftey is built for everyone, some folks are not as mechanical as others. All i can say is we can't keep Harley from selling a bike to a person who wants one regard less of experience. A newbie parks his bike in a pack forgets or isn't told about this and 20 bikes go down. I agree with reading the manual and common sense. Now that i think about it the check ball switch that turns the N lite on would work if starter was spliced into it. In neutral the switch would complete circuit. Out of gear it wouldn't allow power to starter. I do like the fact it will restart if it dies or stalls. Again thanks all.
Do all Harleys start in gear? It's 2008 and i can't believe this company still has a bike that \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; starts in gear. I don't have a problem with it but when a friend of mine went to test drive a bike it was a problem. [align=right]

07 and above have the clutch interlock safety switch.... so the older ones do, but not the newer ones.
