man there are a bunch of Nancy's on this forum. if you want safety and the ability to \\;only start in Neutral buy something else. if you have a question read your owners manual (hint it has a lot of answers in it) \\;then if you cant find what your looking for then ask. but be prepared to get a hard time if its a stupid question, but you will get it answered. i swear some of you people on here think you should take a HD history test before you can buy a new or \\;old \\;HD. then the other half ether have more money then sence and wanna cry bitch and moan about something orst want to jump into to riding a motorcycle and start with a HD when you belong on a scooter.
personally i laugh at all of you the so called hard core guys and the newbies.
 \\;
remember there are no stupid questions just stupid people.
Maybe it's because of the way I was taught to drive but I never start a manual transmission vehicle (car or bike) without having the clutch in, even if I think it's in neutral. \\;\\\\\\; I also always park it in gear. \\;\\\\\\; \\;\\\\\\;
 \\;
+1... \\; geez...
 \\;
How do you start anything that has a manual transmission? \\; By pulling in the clutch first!!!!
 \\;
People who don't know this are the same people that need the warning sign \\;"HOT COFFEE" on the side of their Hot Coffee. \\;
 \\;
Just kidding, but come'on right??? \\; Pull in the clutch before you start ANYTHING that has a manual transmission.
 \\;
lp
i dont think it was stupid question either and he didnt need to get the grief.. ive read my manual and some things in it dont make sense so i ask here if you think its stupid just dont reply a simple no or yes answer would have been fine and then move on
WOW osolow,
You really make me feel welcome. I just registered an hour or so ago and now read this and wonder if I made the right choice in forums. Spelling helps a lot when you are communicating on a PC.
The guy seems to be aware of how \\;his bike works \\;but asked this question out of concern for a friend and to let others that may read this aware also. ddwyer nailed it to me.
Perfection is hoped for but never attained. \\; "NEVER" In my opinion.
Thanks to all the level headed, easy going riders out their.

Kens03, welcome first of all, you made the BEST choice of forums. \\; You'll find a lot of negativity as in any other forum, but much of it is warranted as you will see as you hang out here. \\; Yes, he seems to know how the bike works and he asked a legitimate question, but then starts right away with something like I \\;can't believe HD is behind the times or they are pieces of sh$t, you get the picture. \\; Lots of guys on here, including myself have been riding Harleys a long time and we take offense to the guy who comes here and compares his first HD to every import he's had. \\; It's a HARLEY forum, and yes, you can bitch here, but take it to one of the general sections, don't come into a section and start raggin' on the same company you bought a bike from because now Harleys are cool. \\; Also, if you start sh$t about spelling and telling guys about their opinions, be prepared for the consequences, you'll get slack from some, but to others yo are fair game to tie to the whipping post.
IMO - Yep, agree. \\; Some folks think they know everything. \\; Also, spent 30+ years on jap bikes that always had safety interlocks - just thought the gov't mandated that. \\; Hit the button once while in gear \\;on my 05Ultra - lucky for me, never did it again. \\; Now, have a habit of pulling in clutch and putting in neutral.
 \\;
Long story short - habits take time to break. \\;
