So as most of you know a couple months back I ordered two '06 Ultra Classic's in different colors and secured them by making a deposit until the bikes actually arrived where I could see them in person and make my decision. Well last weekend I saw the Dragonfly Green/Vivid Black that I ordered and decided immediately it was NOT for me. Then the lil' hottie sales girl (I love California) mentions that if I wanted I could transfer my deposit to a SE Ultra that is expected to arrive this week. I've always liked the SE's so I figured for the difference in cost it might be worth it. Then she informs me the cost out the door is approx $41,000. When I got home I checked the Harley website and realized that the MSRP is only $32,000. which means for the price to be $41,000 out the door, they must be selling the bike for approx. $38,000. Seems ridiculous to me. To be candid, if the dealer was willing to sell the bike for MSRP, I would buy it. However, I'm not willing to pay a $6,000 premium just have one. [:'(]
I cannot imagine that they are adding many (if any) options that this particular dealer has added. The primary marketing strategy for the SE bikes is that they include "all of the goodies", so that type of premium seems outragous.
For $6,000 premium, I would suggest you call other dealers. I've seen a number of SE Ultras on the sales floors (at MSRP), so I would suspect you can get one elsewhere easily.
My dealer delivered one this past Saturday for MSRP which like you stated was about 32,000. The bikes have everything you could possible want other than a different exhaust and the stock exhaust actually sounds good on these for some reason. You are getting ripped off.
My dealer said he could only get his hands on one SE Ultra.
They just got it in a week or so ago.
This is a thing of beauty - like I said earlier.
I was there to check out the DragonFly green Ultra, the SE Ultra was right next to it and I could not keep my eyes or hands off of that SE Ultra!
The dealer told me yesterday the the potential buyer for the SE has not commited 100% yet. Hmmmmm
Then the lil' hottie sales girl (I love California)
I think the 'California' part is hurting you on the price issue even though you have the hot sales girl. It seems that you folks are always paying over MSRP out there, whereas the rest of the country seems to have settled into a little-or-no-markup phase.
