Been fighting a somewhat un-stable/light steering(twitchy) problem at higher speeds after some bike upgrades/changes. One of the changes was to stiffen the front end due to adding the weight of an aftermarket fairing. Running progressive lowering springs and indy shop added some pvc to stiffen springs some(went to far - way too stiff) which added like an inch to the height. Also added Arnott aldan shocks on the back and usually run them at 12"(same as stock shocks - 04 rk custom). Anyway I did the fall away test as described in the service manual. It went left to right and stopped which the manual says is too tight. Had the local HD shop adjust to specs and they say they got it to do the correct swing pattern described in the manual. I asked if they take clutch/brake cable during test and they said no. So I take the bike out after the service thinking it may help and nothing..same handling. I take the bike home, up on the jack and do the fall away test again and it's the same as before the service...left to right and stop. I didn't disconnect any cables but they do not seem to be interfering with the forks ability to swing.
Is this fall away test and the results described in the manual accurate and would they effect the handling issues I'm describing?
ps. tires Metz 880's with around 1000 miles on them. Tire pressure is good. 16" spokes(spokes checked out). Use Ride Str8. About 16,000 miles on bike now.
Rode this bike to sturgis last year and it was solid.
