Thinking about buying a Sundowner deep bucket seat for my 03 RK Classic. How much lower does this seat sit you to the ground? Also, does it make the passenger sit way up in the air compared to the rider? Wife is concerned as she does not like to be towering way up in the air over my head. I am 5'9" and she is 5'4".
Opinions please before I spend the $$'s as I don't want to regret the purchase.
It is night and day from the stock seat. You are already 5" taller, so she should be fine behind you. I doubt you will regret the purchase and for some reason you do, you should have no problem selling it on here.
I like mine on my '07. \\; Passenger doesn sit way higher, but some. \\; She should be able to see over your head, but not like having Shaq back there. \\; Passenger pad is wider than the stock one too (on the 07 at least). \\; I didn't notice being a lot lower in the seat, \\;maybe an inch or so. \\; The bucket area makes a nice difference to me vs stock and I think the addition of a rider backrest will make it even better. \\; \\;The padding is a bit firmer. \\; Not as firm as a Corbin, but better for the long haul. \\; I haven't done any true "long hauls" on it, but after 300 miles I'm still smiling.
I have one on my old iron head sportster, and it's a great seat. \\; Haven't tried one on my bagger. \\; My wife prefers being able to see over my head, which is why she likes the sundowner, so that might be an issue if your wife doesn't want that. \\; I have a C&\\;C seat on my 07 Road King, which I like better than the Sundowner. \\; \\;
It's a great seat. On the 08 the crotch is a little wider than stock because of the gas tank being bigger. the Sundowner doesn't need breaking in like some Corbins and Mustangs - especially important for passengers who might not put the miles in that you do being the only rider.
Put the Sundowner on my '08 Streetglide, and really like it. \\; Took a little getting used to because the front is a bit wider than stock. \\; It's more comfortable to me than the Mustang I had on my Honda, and was significantly lower in price than a Mustang. \\; Only dislike I have about it is the '08 models don't have the Streetglide stitching, only plain.
