Coming home from a ride, yesterday, I noticed that the right fairing air deflector (08 Ultra) was loose. Upon closer examination, i discovered that the top hinge part broke off the deflector, and was just barely holding on. Once I moved it, it broke off copletely. I have no clue what might have caused it. I do not even move the vents too much. I had them in the closed position, when it was cooler, and I opened them when the weather warmed up. I thought they felt a bit too stiff, but I thought that's how they're supposed to be. Now i have the deflector taped to the remainig hinge pin, with black electrical tape. Looks like crap, but at least it doesn't flop around. Another part, probably made in the mighty Republic of comunist China! Sheesh!
I've seen a few people post about the 08 deflectors breaking. I was gonna add them to my 08 SG but not if they are that damn flimsy. Guess I'll either wait for a revision part or go with another company.
I would change them to freedomwings or dragon wings (close to the 08 style) I dont know if they make them for the 08s yet as they use a 4 screw system on the 08s

So what we have learned is that the MoCo's 4-bolt system sucks as bad as the 3-bolt on the earlier models. Luckily I found a local guy who makes custom air deflectors that hold up better than the factory's. If anyone's interested, PM me and I'll forward his info.
Freedom Wings first models broke on the top mount, in the screw hole into the fairing. The mount did not screw down flat due to the shape of the fairing. The new ones come with a rubber cushion washer to absorb vibes better and take up the gap.

They will send a free retrofit kit if you have one break, as I did. \\; Otherwise, just pick up a couple of faucett washers and install under the upper mount.
Got 1500 miles on my Ultra and stoped to get gas Sat. looked down and the vent was hanging out from the fairing. The top hing was broke so I looked at the other side and the hing has not broke yet but the vent itself is cracked in front of the hing. Stopped by the dealer and talked to them about it and he gives me this funny look saying he has never seen them do this. Anyway they have to order them and give me call when they come in but sounds like this problem may not go away with there stock vent.
My right hinge broke after 5,000 miles. I ordered a replacement for around $25.00. If, as I did, you added it as an accessory, they don't offer a replacement. Since they are standard on the Ultra, it is available as a replacement Ultra part.
It is funny that the kit of two deflectors from the accessory catalog is about $100, but a replacement deflector for an Ultra is $26.00.
